£32m Chelsea player now feels Mauricio Pochettino really trusts him

Several young players at Chelsea feel that they have Mauricio Pochettino’s trust.

That is according to journalist Ben Jacobs.

Jacobs recently claimed on Si Phillips Talks Chelsea that Nicolas Jackson and some of the other young players in the Blues’ squad feel trusted by Mauricio Pochettino and that “hasn’t gone unnoticed” at Cobham.

Jackson is 22 years of age and arrived at Stamford Bridge in the summer with no Premier League experience, but his manager still decided that he would be the team’s first-choice striker this season.

He has made 16 appearances in all competitions for Chelsea and scored seven goals, including a hat-trick against Tottenham Hotspur.

The faith that Pochettino is continuing to put in Jackson, though, has not stopped the Blues from being linked with other strikers, such as Napoli’s Victor Osimhen.

Chelsea and Mauricio Pochettino have put too much trust in Nicolas Jackson

It is good to see Chelsea putting trust in a young player and Pochettino really trying to work and improve the Senegal international, who cost the club £32m (The Guardian).

However, you cannot help but feel that they have given him a little too much responsibility.

As mentioned earlier, Jackson arrived in west London having not played in the Premier League before. And in Spain, he had not exactly proved to be a prolific No.9 either.

Chelsea, then, took quite a gamble on the former Villarreal man. He could have been a great back-up striker to perhaps a more proven and experienced centre-forward. But the Blues decided to make him the main man instead and that gamble has not really paid off yet.

If it had, then there would not be talk about Osimhen. But there is, because even after the purchases of Jackson and Christopher Nkunku, Chelsea still lack a reliable No.9 who is capable of scoring week in, week out.

Jackson has time to become that, but Chelsea need a frontman who can make a consistent impact now.
