Lakers News: Former LA Champ Believes Kobe Bryant Is All-Time GOAT

In the illustrious history of the NBA, where legends have left an indelible mark on the game, certain players stand out as true game-changers. Icons like Wilt Chamberlain, Bill Russell, Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Michael Jordan, and LeBron James are often celebrated for their impact on the sport.

However, it seems that, at times, one name is inexplicably left out of the conversation: Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant.

Kobe’s contributions to the league, the global reach of basketball, and the city of Los Angeles are immeasurable. Despite these accomplishments, major media outlets sometimes overlook him in discussions about the all-time greats. But former NBA players, particularly those who shared the court with Kobe, have a different perspective.

Enter Trevor Ariza, a champion teammate of Kobe’s, during the Lakers’ 2009 title run. In a recent appearance on the “Club Shay Shay” show hosted by Fox Sports’ Shannon Sharpe, the former NFL Hall of Famer, Ariza made a bold statement. He asserted that, given the choice, he would pick Kobe Bryant over Michael Jordan and LeBron James.

The reaction from Sharpe, an ardent advocate for LeBron as the GOAT, was one of mild surprise.

However, having played alongside both Bryant and James, Ariza possesses a unique perspective. His championship experience with Kobe in 2009 and subsequent experience as a teammate of LeBron’s during the 2021-2022 season gives him valuable insights.

Rather than adhering to conventional rankings, Ariza is choosing to give his flowers to Kobe—a commendable decision, considering the tendency of major media outlets to overlook Kobe’s enduring impact on the game.

Sometimes, it takes someone who’s been in the trenches with these legends to offer a perspective that transcends the usual narratives.
