Report: Tiger Woods set to unveil next apparel partnership after leaving Nike

Tiger Woods will reportedly soon announce a new clothing partnership with TaylorMade after bringing an end to his association with Nike.

Woods, 48, confirmed the worst kept secret in men’s professional golf on 9 January by stating he has parted ways with the sportswear giant after 27 years.

The 15-time major champion has been using the brand’s products and wearing the swoosh since 1996.

But the two have agreed to part ways.

There has been no suggestion the split was acrimonious, although Woods’ decision to wear FootJoy golf shoes in competition since sustaining serious injuries in his 2021 car crash is said to have frustrated some executives.

Woods is said to have been paid at least $500m over the years by Nike.

GolfMagic has already taken an in-depth look at the potential clothing partners for the hall of fame golfer.

But according to the report, it’s TaylorMade who are in the driving seat.

As reported by TWLegion on X, the original equipment manufacturer has been advertising roles for a new apparel division.

Woods has been using TaylorMade golf clubs since Nike stopped making golf equipment so it seems a logistical step.

The report notes that the brand could attempt to poach stars who already use their golf clubs.

Nike still have the likes of Rory McIlroy, Brooks Koepka, Scottie Scheffler and Nelly Korda as brand ambassadors.

Although the report states the announcement could be made imminently, it is likely Woods’ new apparel partner will be unveiled when he makes his first start of 2024 in Los Angeles next month.

In his emotional farewell to Nike, Woods all-but confirmed that he will peg it up at the Genesis Invitational on the PGA Tour.

Woods wrote: “Over 27 years go, I was fortunate to start a partnership with one of the most iconic brands in the world.

“The days since have been filled with so many amazing moments and memories, if I started naming them, I could go on forever.

“Phil Knight’s passion and vision brought this Nike and Nike Golf partnership together and I want to personally thank him, along with the Nike employees and incredible athletes I have had the pleasure of working with along the way.

“People will ask if there is another chapter. Yes, there will certainly be another chapter.”

In response to Woods’ statement, Nike offered: “Tiger, you challenged your competition, stereotypes, conventions, the old school way of thinking.

“You challenged the entire institution of golf. You challenged us. And most of all, yourself. And for that challenge we’re grateful.”
