Margot Robbie discloses that she used her inaugural paycheck to support her single mother, who provided unwavering support as she pursued her acting dreams.

She’s the Oscar-nominated actress who swapped Ramsay Street for the bright lights of Hollywood.

But Margot Robbie has never forgotten how her single mother Sarie Kessler helped her find success in the film industry.

The former Neighbours star, 29, was interviewed by Sarie for Vogue Australia’s September issue and the pair discussed how Margot spent her first acting paycheck.

In conversation with her daughter, Sarie asked Margot what she had spent her first paycheck on when she started making money as an actress.

Margot said: ‘I spent it on paying you back, mum. Don’t you remember?’

She continued: ‘I was so in debt by the end of grade 12.

‘I had everything I owed you written on a piece of paper, and every time I got a paycheck I paid off my debt, but then I kept the piece of paper because it was so satisfying at the end to know I’d paid it all back.’

Margot’s big break came in 2008, when she debuted on Neighbours as Donna Freedman, a role she played for three years.

But in 2011, Hollywood beckoned and she began auditioning for U.S. television shows and movies.

She has since starred in several blockbusters, including The Wolf of Wall Street, Suicide Squad and I, Tonya, which she also co-produced.

Her latest role has seen her reunite with Leonardo DiCaprio for Quentin Tarantino’s ninth film, Once Upon a Time In Hollywood.

Her portrayal of murdered actress Sharon Tate has even been praised by the late star’s family, and reduced her sister Debra Tate to tears.

‘Margot did an outstanding job,’ Debra recently said on Good Morning Britain.

‘At one point, when I was on set, I had her in my ear on a mic and I actually shed a tear because she sounded just like Sharon.’
