Chelsea look set to miss out on one of their potential transfer targets this summer.
Back in November, journalist Simon Phillips claimed that Chelsea were interested in signing Bayern Munich defender Alphonso Davies, 23.
However, according to The Athletic, Real Madrid have now reached a verbal agreement with the player for him to join the club this year or in 2025.
Real Madrid are yet to agree a deal with Bayern to sign Alphonso Davies in 2024. But with his contract expiring next summer, the German giants may have no choice but to sell him at the end of the season.
Left-back has been a problem position for Chelsea this term, with Ben Chilwell and Marc Cucurella picking up injuries and centre-back Levi Colwill playing there. It does not look like Davies is going to be the solution now, though.

Chelsea set to miss out on Alphonso Davies to Real Madrid
Real Madrid always felt like the favourites for Davies’ signature, especially over Chelsea.
They are arguably the biggest club in the world and are building such an exciting young team with Kylian Mbappe expected to link up with the likes of Jude Bellingham and Vinicius Junior in the summer.
According to BBC Sport, Mbappe has already agreed to join Real Madrid in the next transfer window.
As for Chelsea, they are only heading in one direction right now: backwards. Mauricio Pochettino‘s men just lost the Carabao Cup final to a Liverpool team missing Mohamed Salah and Alisson and are in the bottom half of the Premier League table.
If you are Davies, it is pretty much a no-brainer. Chelsea will now have to look at other names or go into next season with Chilwell and Cucurella as their main left-back options.
There is still Colwill as well, but with Thiago Silva’s contract up in the summer, the England international could have the chance to return to central defence permanently.
