One of Chelsea’s recent signings is hoping to achieve big things at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea agreed a deal with Independiente del Valle to sign Kendry Paez for £17m last summer, with the midfielder set to join the Blues when he turns 18.
Paez recently spoke to Diario Expreso, where he shared his ambition to become the very best footballer in the world one day.
The 16-year-old looks set to make it to the very top, already earning five caps for the Ecuador national team.
While Paez is unable to play for Chelsea until he turns 18, the IDV youngster has trained with Mauricio Pochettino’s squad.
Kendry Paez aiming to become the best
Paez has set the lofty goal of trying to become the best player in football.
“I always want to be the best,” the Ecuador international said. “I’m going to give everything to get to first place. I take everything I am experiencing calmly; I haven’t gotten too worked up.
“I didn’t think that the possibility of being able to demonstrate my football would come to me so quickly. I am focused on Independiente, I am happy with what I have achieved, but like every professional footballer I want to win everything with the team.”

Can Kendry Paez become the best footballer in the world
His agent Manuel Sierra does, claiming back in January that his client has the potential to win the Ballon d’Or.
Honestly, it is way too early to say. After all, Paez is not even 18 yet and has still not played in Europe. However, on the trajectory he is on, you would expect him to at least become a very good player.
It is going to come down to how he develops at Chelsea, which is not always the best environment for a young footballer who is trying to grow.
The Blues, of course, are never afraid to spend in the transfer market, and the addition of new signings can obviously block the pathway for those already at the club. Paez clearly has a lot of talent, though, and hopefully it does not go to waste.
