Antony Learns Fate As Brazil Announce World Cup Qualifying Squad

Manchester United winger Antony has received more bad news over his international status.

At the weekend, Antony really struggled in Manchester United’s win over Fulham. He was called out by Rio Ferdinand among others, with supporters glad to see Facundo Pellistri come on in his palce.

Antony is yet to register a goal or assist this season the £86 million Brazilian is under huge pressure.

Now he has suffered a further blow, omitted from his nation’s latest World Cup qualifying squad.

Adding to the 22-year-old’s struggles, the winger has been left out of the Brazil squad for their upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Colombia and Argentina.

It is unclear if this is totally related to his poor form or the serious allegations against him in his personal life.

This will be a tough pill to swallow for the winger, who is well below his best, and is enduring a difficult season on and off the pitch.

The only positive of Antony being omitted from the Brazil squad is that he will be fit for when the Red Devils return from the international break against Everton at Goodison Park, a ground where the Brazilian scored one of his four Premier League goals last season.

Antony’s future

It would be a tad dramatic to say that Antony is on last-chance saloon territory, Fabrizio Romano reports there are no plans to part ways with the player. But his place in the team could be under threat, the winger has consistently looked average on the right, and there are options returning who could usurp him.

Amad Diallo is back on the grass for the Red Devils and Facundo Pellistri is beginning to make a big impact off the bench, time may be running out for Antony.

The Brazilian has a chance this week to show Fernando Diniz, the Brazil national team coach, that he was wrong to be omitted from the squad, but that’s only if Erik ten Hag selects him.
