Liam Payne has got an eye-catching new tattoo hinting at the challenges he’s faced in 2023, as he finishes work on his second album.
The singer, 30, recently shared the image showcasing his toned torso while posing in front of a mirror, with his latest ink reading: ‘Where darkness meets light.’
The tattoo artist Certified Letter Boy, who has also created inks for the Beckhams, explained the meaning behind Liam’s tattoo.
He said: ‘It reflects Liam’s journey and the universal truth that in our darkest moments, there’s always a way back.’
It comes after Liam has faced a tough year battling struggles with his mental health and addiction, the latter of which resulted in a long stay at a wellness clinic.

His tattoo comes as Liam finishes up work on his second album, which he announced in May.
Liam said: ‘Lyrically it’s about the relationship I am in at the moment. It has been tough at times and great at others, and also my relationship with myself and what I found out about myself when I went to rehab and all those things.’
The former One Direction star has been dating American influencer Kate Cassidy since October 2022.
They split in May, but reunited the following month.
Liam shares son Bear, six, with singer Cheryl, whom he dated between 2016 and 2018. Bear is the only child for both.
In November, Cheryl’s band Girls Aloud announced a reunion tour in memory of deceased member Sarah Harding that will begin in May 2024.
Liam was forced to cancel his South American tour in September after he contracted a kidney infection.
He was rushed to hospital after he fell ill on a trip with Kate, 24, to Lake Como, Italy.
Grateful: Liam thanked his six-year-old son Bear and his ex-girlfriend and Bear’s mother Cheryl for supporting his decision to get better
At the time of Liam’s illness, his distraught mother fought back tears as she revealed how the superstar’s family were all ‘worried sick’ over her son’s emergency dash to hospital.
Speaking from her three-storey, £360,000 detached home near Wolverhampton, Karen Payne, said: ‘We are all worried sick about it but we just have to get on. It’s horrible – him being all the way over there.
‘He’s in Milan and it sounds like he’ll be there for a week. I feel helpless.’ The 62-year-old added: ‘All we can really do is sit it out here and hope for the best. There is nothing we can do.
‘It’s such a horrible situation and we just hope he’s in the best place possible.’
