Drake put up another impressive week of sales for his new album.
After debuting at the number one spot on the Billboard 200 last week, Drake’s new album For All The Dogs only slipped one spot in week two. It put up over 400k units in its first week which lapped the field, tallying almost as much as the rest of the top 10 combined. It’s sales figures continued to be impressive in week two, racking up 161k in total sales. That also places among the top 10 biggest sales weeks of any rap album in 2023 and would normally be enough to grab the top spot.
The album keeping Drake off the top of the Billboard 200 for a second week is Bad Bunny’s Nadie Sabe Lo Que Va A Pasar Manana which racked up more than 200k sales in its first week. Given that Bad Bunny also had one of the biggest-selling albums of 2022, it’s no surprise to see him debut so high. The rest of the top 5 is also bustling with debuts. K-pop group Tomorrow X Together debuted their new mini-album The Name Chapter: Freefall at number 3 on the charts. Meanwhile coming at number 5 is Offset with his new project Set It Off. In between them is country singer Zach Bryan’s self-titled album which has now spent a full two months in the top 10.
Drake’s Impressive Second Week Sales
While Drake’s numbers are impressive, his spot on the chart is a matter of circumstances. Bad Bunny’s album did happen to debut very high this week. But For All The Dogs numbers are still on pace with its biggest contemporary from this year, Travis Scott’s UTOPIA. That album ended up leading the Billboard 200 for the entire first month it appeared on the chart. UTOPIA still sits at number 13 in its 12th week.
Drake charted the entire tracklist of the album in the Hot 100 during its first week. Similarly, his second week on the Hot 100 has also been impressive. Despite 21 new Bad Bunny songs making their debut, 19 songs from For All The Dogs still remain. What do you think of For All The Dogs selling 161k in its second week?
