The mom of two opened up about why she puts so much effort into the tradition
Khloé Kardashian is making sure her kids are in the Christmas spirit.
In a series of posts to her Snapchat Story, the mom of two, 39, opened up about her family’s favorite tradition, Elf on the Shelf.
Kardashian admitted that the family is new to the tradition, having just started last year when daughter True was 4. “I wanted to hold off until she was old enough to understand what it was all about, and it could really make the lead-up to Christmas the most fun and magical for her,” she explained.
Recalling some of her own Christmas traditions growing up — including “matching Christmas PJs on Christmas Eve, my mom’s dollhouse, baking cookies with my mom” — the Good American co-founder noted she was looking for something that was a “new tradition for my family.”

When it came to this Christmas, “True wanted to have two elves this year. One for her and one for Tatum. Hers has earrings and Tatum’s doesn’t,” she shared, showing off the pair of elves.
“Of course, Tatum has no idea what’s going on but True really enjoys it, and it’s so sweet that True always thinks of her brother,” the proud mom said of her kids. “She wants to include him in every activity we do as a family.”
As for the elaborate set-ups for the elves that can be found across the internet, Kardashian said, “It’s definitely a lot of work coming up with ideas and setting up the elves each night but seeing True’s face light up every morning makes it all so worth it.”
Showing her first surprise of the season — where the elves built a giant snowman out of rolls of toilet paper — she wrote, “I did NOT start small this year guys.”

The thoughtful mom also made sure to repeat some of last year’s favorites that True talked about after the holiday season was through.
“The fact that she remembers some of the scenes she loved the most from last year makes it all worth doing!”

The mom has learned to work in some simpler set-ups because “I’ve found that I’m probably the one who cares the most how impressive the set ups are. The kids think it’s impressive and magical no matter what!”
She recommended other families who are trying the tradition for the first time “start small,” recalling, “I was so excited to do elf on the shelf when I saw my sisters doing it and then once I had to do it, the first week was the honeymoon phase and then I realized how ridiculous it was, but I already started these elaborate scenes for the elves and there was really no turning back! Big mistake.”

Earlier this month, the mom of two got into the holiday spirit as she snapped a sweet picture of her two kids and their cousin Dream, 7, in matching Christmas pajamas.
After the three kids posed for a photo together, they all got in on a dance party. The three danced around Kardashian’s beautifully decorated home to a mix of songs from the Sing 2 soundtrack before switching over to Christmas classics.
“The MOST magical time of year!!! We are in the Christmas spirit in our Christmas pajamas and our Christmas dance moves 🎄🎄 🤶🏼🤶🏼🎅🏼🎅🏼♥️♥️🎄🎄 pajamas: @zipnbear,” the proud mom captioned photos from the night.
