Even though there are no promotional activities, Jimin’s newly released song, “Closer than this”, still tops the iTunes charts worldwide.
Less than a day after its release on the afternoon of December 22, Jimin’s new song quickly broke through, reaching No. 1 on the iTunes Top Songs chart in at least 90 countries and territories, including United States, Japan, Germany, France… (as of 10am, December 23).
Previously, Closer than this also ranked No. 1 on the real-time chart of Bugs (one of the largest digital music sites in Korea), just 1 hour after its release.
Additionally, Jimin’s previous hits like Like Crazy and Set me free pt2 , songs from Jimin’s debut solo album FACE – suddenly returned to the chart, 9 months after their initial release in March. This once again shows the warm support of domestic and foreign audiences for BTS members.
Closer than this helped Jimin sweep the world music charts.
Closer than this is a song that Jimin released when he joined the army, and saw it as a gift for fans, before he officially returned in June 2025.
The song’s MV gives fans a comprehensive view of Jimin’s musical journey over the past 10 years. Along with that, the male idol also promised to always do his best to not disappoint the audience.
On December 12, Jimin officially enlisted in the army and performed mandatory military service. In South Korea, all able-bodied men are required to serve in the military for at least 18 months.
Currently, all 7 members of BTS have performed military service. The whole group plans to come back strongly with music projects after being discharged from the military at the end of 2025.
