One Piece fans are convinced that the new opening song previews a new Devil Fruit for Vivi, spelling a character death not even seen in the manga yet.
One Piece fans are convinced that the new OP theme for the “Egghead” arc previews a new Devil Fruit for Vivi, foreshadowing a character death that hasn’t yet even occurred in the manga.
The latest One Piece Episode 1089, titled “Entering a New Chapter! Luffy and Sabo’s Paths!” revealed the new opening song “Assu!” by Hiroshi Kitadani. Kitadani also sang the very first One Piece opening song, “We are!” The new video contains stunning and vibrant visuals, teasers for upcoming fights and notably, for many fans, a shot of Vivi running into a hole in the wall. With this cut transitioning into Bonney’s interaction with Kuma’s memories, many suspect that she will be inheriting Kuma’s Paw Paw Fruit.
Did they foreshadow Vivi getting the Paw Paw devil fruit? One more for the record books if true.

I’ve been spreading the PAW PAW VIVI agenda for YEARS.
Even if she doesn’t get it, the fruit is a lock for Lily in the past. How else were the Poneglyphs spread across the world? The reason SEA CATS are revered in Alabasta? PAWS!

Vivi getting the Paw Paw fruit has been a long-held theory among One Piece fans due to the reverence of cats in Alabasta. The fruit would allow her to stand alongside the Straw Hats and symbolize the inheritance of Kuma’s will as someone who also wishes to liberate the world. As of One Piece Chapter 1103, Kuma is still alive, albeit barely, arriving at the perfect moment to rescue Bonney. One Piece Chapter 1104 releases in two weeks on Jan. 21, 2024, meaning there’s still a while to go before audiences learn Kuma’s fate and Vivi’s next move.
“Assu!” marks the 26th opening in the series, directed by the acclaimed Megumi Ishitani with Keisuke Mori as the main animator. The title’s meaning represents a greeting, “earth” or “tomorrow,” according to Kitadani on X. Ishitani’s previous directorial credits include Episode 1015, which received universal praise upon release. While she continues to define the One Piece anime with her creative style, she says she’s excited to see what WIT Studio will do with its upcoming remake, The One Piece.
Fans can check out the new opening song and the One Piece anime on Crunchyroll, which streams the current anime. It describes the series: “Monkey. D. Luffy refuses to let anyone or anything stand in the way of his quest to become the king of all pirates. With a course charted for the treacherous waters of the Grand Line and beyond, this is one captain who’ll never give up until he’s claimed the greatest treasure on Earth: the Legendary One Piece!”
