Chelsea’s fans have been very patient with this current group of players.
They’re young, mostly have little to no experience of senior football, let alone the Premier League, and they didn’t choose their vast price tags. But fans of other teams are under obligation to be polite, and they are entitled to their glee when they win a game.
For a team like mid-table in the Championship Middlesbrough, the chance to take on (and beat) our expensive mercenaries is a glorious one, and they were enjoying their whole evening yesterday.
It was notable in the Sky Sports coverage of the game that they serenaded £107m (CNN) man Enzo Fernandez with the all time classic “what a waste of money” as he trudged off after an ineffective hour to be replaced.
We’ve seen Enzo’s quality before, but right now this whole project feels like a waste of money.
Let’s hope our home fans get revenge in two weeks at the Bridge.
