Roqeebat said it was one of the most fulfilling experiences of her academic life. She applauded herself for the initiatives she took like revitalizing the Nigeria Society and making it a household name within the marketing team.

She said finding herself at the United Kingdom’s Department for Education feels surreal for her. Roqeebat stated that as an economist specializing in the Economics of Development, she has read extensively about developed economies in the world like the United Kingdom.

Roqeebat said it was no easy feat for her as she went through the rigorous application process which started in Jan 2023. She stated that she completed two assessments, and two academic transcripts, and passed rigorous scrutiny in the second phase.

She also added that she prepared and attended a three-hour-long virtual assessment and interview process in the 3rd stage while prepping for her second-term master’s exam at the same time.

Roqeebat also said she went on to get a provisional offer which made her go through another 2-month-long background check. She said the process demanded immense resilience, reliance on God’s patience, and self-belief in her deservingness of this role.

Roqeebat bagged her bachelor’s degree in Economics with first-class honors at the Obafemi Awolowo University before she earned a scholarship to study for her postgraduate at the University of York.

Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson was last night accused of taking a ‘simplistic’ approach after she said that top exam results alone will not make children ‘happy’. Laying out her vision for schooling in her first address to academy trust leaders since Labour came to power, Mrs Phillipson said that while a string of A* grades may ‘open important doors’, pupils need a ‘wider’ set of goals for a ‘healthy and happy life’. In a clear swipe at the Tories’ former regime, she accused them of having ‘tunnel vision’ when it comes to exam results – and said she wanted to promote ‘collaboration’ rather than ‘competition’.
