According to Fabrizio Romano, the 24-year-old Chelsea player’s pay stopped him from leaving in January.

Two clubs were interested in signing Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah last month but were put off by his wages.

Atletico Madrid and West Ham United both considered signing Trevoh Chalobah in the January transfer window, Fabrizio Romano has claimed on Substack.

However, according to the transfer expert, the centre-back’s salary was considered “too high” for a six-month loan.

Chalobah is yet to feature this season because of injury, but it looks like he may not have played his last game for Chelsea after all.

At one point, amid all of the speculation surrounding his future and with Mauricio Pochettino having plenty of other centre-half options, it seemed like Chalobah was definitely heading for the exit door. But the 24-year-old remains a Chelsea player for the time being.

Atletico Madrid and West Ham considered Trevoh Chalobah

A move to either Atletico or West Ham could have been really good for Chalobah.

Atletico are one of the top teams in Spain and have an excellent coach at the helm in Diego Simeone. The former England U21 international could have learnt a lot under him.

As for West Ham, a move there would have allowed Chalobah to perhaps get regular game time while remaining in the Premier League.

At Chelsea, it is hard to imagine that happening, with Pochettino having Thiago Silva, Axel Disasi and Benoit Badiashile to call upon at this moment in time.

The Hammers are also doing pretty well this season, currently sitting in sixth, above their London rivals Chelsea.

His wages, though, look to have blocked a transfer and he will now have to see out the remainder of the campaign at Stamford Bridge.

However, if Chalobah sees little game time from now until the end of the season, you would expect him to push for a move in the summer.
