‘Disgraceful’… Club director hits out at Chelsea after blocking £120k-a-week player’s transfer

It is fair to say that one club were not happy with Chelsea’s conduct in the January transfer window.

Le Havre director Mathieu Bodmer has labelled Chelsea‘s handling of one failed transfer as “disgraceful”, with Paris Normandie relaying his quotes.

Malang Sarr was close to joining Le Havre on deadline day, but a deal fell through at the very last minute and Bodmer has placed the blame on the Blues.

A return to France would have been perfect for Sarr, with the Frenchman not part of Mauricio Pochettino‘s first-team plans. He has failed to earn a single minute of football at Chelsea this season.

According to Spotrac, the central defender earns £120,000 a week at Stamford Bridge.

Le Havre not happy with Chelsea after Malang Sarr’s failed transfer

Bodmer was not impressed with Chelsea’s indecision with Sarr, with the director claiming that the Blues eventually told the 25-year-old he was not allowed to join Le Havre.

On Sarr’s failed transfer, Bodmer said: “What they did to him was disgraceful. They are the directors of the club with six English league titles, now owned by the American Todd Boehly. With just a few details still to be worked out, they did a U-turn. They gave the youngster the go-ahead to travel, and a financial agreement had been reached for the eighteen months of his remaining contract at Chelsea.

“However, on several occasions, they went back on their agreement, and then gave it again. And once the player had agreed to make a big effort, to come to us on a tiny salary, just to play football, they blocked him.

“Everything was OK, the contract had even been submitted to the League (LFP), but we never received Chelsea’s cancellation. In the end, they just told him he wouldn’t be leaving and they didn’t even answer the phone any more.”

Chelsea should have let Malang Sarr join Le Havre

There really was no reason for Chelsea to keep hold of Sarr. He is not part of the first team at Chelsea and that is not going to change when you look at all of the centre-back options they already have.

The former Nice star is on so much money as well for a footballer who is not playing right now. It would have been helpful to get all of it or even some of it off their books.
