Japanese Embassy roots for Taylor Swift, assures fans she’ll make it to Super Bowl

As Taylor Swift finds herself busy electrifying Tokyo for her Eras Tour, the Japanese Embassy in Washington, D.C., assured angsty Swifties Friday that she will arrive in time for the Super Bowl in Las Vegas on Feb. 11.

Driving the news: Swift, who is currently dating Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, has regularly attended the team’s games, becoming a prominent figure at NFL events. However, her Eras Tour, which is currently in Tokyo, poses a logistical challenge as her fourth and final show is set for Saturday, local time.

With a 12-hour flight and 17-hour time difference, fans worry whether she can continue her attendance streak at the Super Bowl on Sunday, where the Chiefs face off against the San Francisco 49ers. AP News predicts that she can make it on time if she flies out at midnight (which will be 7 a.m. in Las Vegas) for the 11- or 12-hour journey without delays.

What the Japanese Embassy said: Tokyo’s diplomatic mission in D.C. caught wind of Swift’s fans’ concerns. In a statement sprinkled with Taylor Swift references Friday, the embassy assured Swifties that the singer can depart Tokyo after her concert and arrive in Las Vegas before the Super Bowl kicks off.

“Despite the 12-hour flight and 17-hour time difference, the Embassy can confidently Speak Now to say that if she departs Tokyo in the evening after her concert, she should comfortably arrive in Las Vegas before the Super Bowl begins,” the statement said.

“We know that many people in Japan are excited to experience Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour, so we wanted to confirm that anyone concerned can be Fearless in knowing that this talented performer can wow Japanese audiences and still make it to Las Vegas to support the Chiefs when they take the field for the Super Bowl wearing Red.”

What fans are saying: Swifties welcomed the Japanese Embassy’s statement with excitement, with many convinced that the East Asian country is collectively a Swiftie.

Big win: Days before the Super Bowl, Swift made history Sunday by becoming the first artist to win best album at the Grammys for the fourth time. This year, she took the award for “Midnights,” following “Fearless” in 2010, “1989” in 2016 and “Folklore” in 2021

Super Bowl LVIII will take place at Allegiant Stadium.
