Captain America: Brave New World star Anthony Mackie reveals his desire to feature in a future John Wick franchise film.
Captain America: Brave New World star Anthony Mackie insists on appearing in the John Wick film franchise, wanting to achieve “cool dad” status by starring opposite the popular eponymous assassin.
Speaking with Total Film, Mackie delved into his admiration for the John Wick film series and desire to appear in it, having nudged star Keanu Reeves to get him a spot in John Wick 5. When asked about his “bucket list project,” Mackie said, “I’m really trying to get Keanu Reeves to consider me for John Wick 5 or 6. I think that will make me a cool dad if I had, like, a five-minute fight scene with Keanu Reeves.” Mackie also alluded to his experience fighting All Elite Wrestling world heavyweight champion, Samoa Joe, during Twisted Metal. “I’m gonna put up a fight! [Pro wrestler] Samoa Joe punched me in the face in this [Twisted Metal] and I did not go down!” he said.
John Wick Series Officially In Development At Lionsgate
Lionsgate Chairman Michael Burns confirms that the John Wick franchise is expanding.
With John Wick 5 now in development at Lionsgate following its announcement last May, Mackie is the latest actor to suggest being a part of the upcoming sequel or another future installment in the neo-noir action franchise. The Color Purple‘s Fantasia Barrino recently expressed similar sentiments, suggesting it was a bucket list opportunity for her, much like Mackie. The John Wick franchise is also expanding, with multiple spinoffs and an anime series in development at Lionsgate, potentially offering more roles for actors interested in joining.
What Is Next for the John Wick Franchise?
Though Reeves’ eponymous hitman seemingly met his demise in Chapter 4, Lionsgate greenlit another sequel, with plans to bring Reeves’ Wick back for another installment. Chapter 4 is the highest-grossing film in the John Wick franchise ($440.1 million worldwide) and the most critically acclaimed of the movie series’ four titles. Mackie has considerable action film experience on his CV, led by his world in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Sam Wilson/Falcon.
