Marcus Rashford will resist Man Utd’s attempts to cash in on £80m star as Red Devils face huge pay off to get rid of him

New part-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe is undertaking a total overhaul of the Old Trafford squad.

And Rashford would raise the most cash because any sale of an academy product would become pure profit. A transfer would allow United to splash more money in the summer.

But forward Rashford, 26, does not want to leave his boyhood club as he is happy in Manchester.

He is under contract until 2028 on a deal worth £325,000 a week and it is unlikely he would find any club willing to match those terms.

Man Utd face handing Rashford a massive pay-off if they try to force him out the door.

He scored 30 goals in 56 United games last season and attracted interest from Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid before signing his new deal last July.

But his form has dropped dramatically since.

Rashford has only eight club goals this term and, rather than being the first name on the team sheet, has been regularly dropped or subbed.

Fans have also grown frustrated with the home-grown star, booing him at the FA Cup semi-final when he was taken off towards the end of normal time.

Rashford’s relationship with manager Erik ten Hag has also broken down to the point where the pair barely speak.

Ten Hag is furious with the player for ignoring his warnings about his off-pitch lifestyle after he partied following the 3-0 derby defeat last October.

Then he was seen partying again in Belfast until the early hours of January 26 when he was supposed to be training that day.

Rashford rang in sick and was dropped from the squad for the FA Cup tie at Newport two days later.

As well as his place in United’s team now under scrutiny, he could miss out on a Euros place.
