UFC star Conor McGregor donates £10,000 towards life-changing treatment for one-year baby girl in Ireland with rare genetic condition

Conor McGregor has donated £10,000 to help pay for life-changing treatment for a baby girl in Ireland.

MMA superstar McGregor has given his support to the Hope For Evie campaign, by pledging a large donation.

The campaign is raising funds for the one-year-old who has a rare genetic condition.

A fundraiser at Crumlin Boxing Club recently raised €12,000 (£10,000) for Evie, who turned one last Friday.

Conor McGregor, pictured with his son earlier this year, has donated £10,000 towards life-changing treatment for an ill one-year girl living in Ireland

Over £85,000 has so far been raised for Evie, who is suffering with a rare genetic condition

McGregor had donated a pair of signed gloves for the fundraiser at his local Crumlin Boxing Club on Friday, which raised £430 (€500).

The Irishman then agreed to match the entire amount raised at the fundraiser after being asked by a boxing coach from the gym.

Coach Bra Brady said: ‘We got €500 for the gloves and being a bit cheeky I asked if he would match whatever we made and he said it was no problem.’

Evie, who is missing a large part of her X-chromosome, was diagnosed in March of this year with a rare condition called microcephaly with pontine cerebellar hypoplasia, and a mutation in her CASK gene.

The rare condition stunts the development of Evie’s brain and can cause a wide variety of problems that include a seizure disorder, developmental delays, intellectual disabilities and facial distortions.

Over £85,000 has so far been raised to help pay for specialist treatment in the US in February.

Evie’s mum Emma Nolan told the Irish Mirror: ‘It was not by any means a publicity stunt from Mcgregor as he did not even what to be mentioned, we can’t thank Conor enough for helping our little girl.

The time and effort put into the Crumlin boxing fundraiser was unbelievable and I would like to thank Katie, Sinead, Bra, Aaron and Phil and all involved in the club.

‘They really went above and beyond on the day and we are forever grateful.’
