Bronny James is arguably the most hyped second-round NBA Draft prospect in history. The optics of various news outlets giving so much coverage to a projected late second-rounder has been viewed by many as a sign of nepotism.

Kendrick Perkins, for example, recently called out his fellow ESPN panel for covering Bronny only due to his last name. “There are other players that deserve our attention,” Perkins said. “The lottery guys and guys who are going to get drafted in the first round. We’re talking about a guy that’s possibly gonna go late second or not get drafted at all.”

Does the son of LeBron James benefit from nepotism? Their agent, Rich Paul, was recently asked about Bronny being “the most discussed player” in his draft class.

“If his name was different, would he get a different treatment? Yes, probably so,” Paul told Bleacher Report’s Chris Haynes. “Some may feel like he’s getting an opportunity because of his father, and I think that’s a very naive logic, especially in America.

“When you look at America as a whole, it’s built on the nepotism. No one’s having this conversation about Jim Dolan. He owns the Knicks, but his dad built a business. Same with Casey Wasserman. Lou Wasserman built a business. I got plenty of friends that come from very wealthy families whose families built a business, and when it’s their turn to take charge, they’re not sitting on the couch. They’re looking to enhance it.”

Paul added that Bronny “shouldn’t apologize for who his dad is” and should focus on improving his basketball skills.

According to The Athletic’s Shams Charania, the 19-year-old will work out with the Suns ahead of the June 26-27 NBA Draft. The report added that Bronny has received over 10 workout invites but is expected to visit only a few teams, including Lakers and Suns.
