A few weeks later, the legendary left-back made an emotional return to his boyhood club and earlier this month, helped them win their first-ever Copa Libertadores title.

The 35-year-old and Ronaldo shared plenty of great moments at Real Madrid. They won several trophies, domestically and in Europe, and both were the best in their position at some point.

The Portuguese star left Los Blancos in 2018 to join Juventus while Marcelo continued with the Spanish giants.

He left last year after winning his 25th trophy with Real Madrid, making him the most decorated player in the club’s history. He made 546 appearances for the club in all competitions, scoring 38 goals and providing 103 assists, per the Athletic.

Speaking on the Charla podcast via AS, Marcelo said he considered joining Al-Nassr.

“We [Ronaldo and I] talked about this some time ago. I had some proposals to leave, not just there [Al-Nassr], but I needed to return here [Brazil], to my roots. Something told me that I had to go back.”

He ended up returning to his boyhood club, Fluminense and it was worth it, as we saw earlier this month.

The two could still line up at Al-Nassr one day, considering Saudi Pro League clubs are willing to pay the premium amount to sign the biggest names in football.
