Pep Guardiola upsets Man City fans with ‘stupid and disrespectful’ comments vs Liverpool

A Manchester City fan has called Pep Guardiola “stupid” on national radio after he criticised the club’s supporters AGAIN on Saturday.

Guardiola tried to encourage the City fans to create “more noise” during the 1-1 draw against Liverpool at the Etihad. He was spotted pointing at his ears and raising his hands up and down. The Spaniard described the atmosphere as “very still” after the game.

It wasn’t the first time Guardiola has criticised City’s home support. After their 4-2 win against Tottenham in January, he urged them to create a more intense atmosphere inside the Etihad. “I want my fans back here,” the manager said at the beginning of 2023.

Guardiola’s controversial comments will have angered some City fans, with one supporter named Ged ringing BBC Radio 5 Live to make his feelings known. “I think the manager is stupid, ignorant and downright disrespectful in his comments today,” said Ged.

The disgruntled City fan pointed at the fact Saturday’s game started at 12:30pm and claimed that no Premier League grounds are raucous at that time. Ged said: “Name me a ground where the atmosphere is really good at 12:30pm on a Saturday.”

Hosts Robbie Savage and Chris Sutton pondered Ged’s demand before the latter said Tottenham. Ged replied: “No it’s not. That’s nonsense and you know it’s nonsense.”

Sutton then named the Emirates, St James’ Park, Anfield and Goodison Park, to which Ged responded: “Well, you’re talking rubbish… I’ve watched games at 12:30pm at those grounds and it’s dead. The atmosphere is dead. The atmosphere is dead.”

Sutton then highlighted Guardiola’s success at City and urged Ged to have a “bit of respect”. Guardiola has won five Premier League titles, two FA Cups, four League Cups, two Community Shields, the Champions League and European Super Cup at City.

Ged then doubled down on his 12:30pm point. The City fan argued: “And 3pm is a big difference because people have had a booze, haven’t they?

Ged also claimed the atmosphere at the Etihad was much better for City’s 3-0 Champions League win against Young Boys earlier this month because it was a night game. And the City fan would rather play 12:30pm games away from home.

Ged continued: “For the manager to call us out today is poor. It’s poor. And I’ll call him out for it as well because I’m right… the manager is wrong… they’re not complacent. City fans are the best in the country. We got 40,000 in the third tier (approximately) 25 years ago.” City’s actual average attendance in their 1998-99 third-tier campaign was just over 28,000.

Guardiola raised eyebrows on Saturday by gesturing towards City’s fans. He later told reporters: “I wanted some more noise, it felt very still. A little bit more, but maybe we’ll have to play a bit better to make them move a bit more.”
