Did Kuma meet Luffy in Foosha Village?
One Piece chapter 1100 dropped recently and it was surely one of the most exciting ones in the Kuma flashback that fans have witnessed so far. This chapter was more on the emotional side and it showcased Kuma and the sacrifice that he made for the safety of Bonney. Kuma has proven himself to be an incredible character and that is something that fans were expecting from the very beginning of this flashback.
The admirals are considerably weaker than the yonko, and here’s why.
With each passing chapter, fans have come to love him even more. While the vast majority of One Piece chapter 1100 focused on Kuma becoming a member of the Shichibukai and slowly being turned into a cyborg, the end to the chapter was absolutely shocking for all the fans to see as Kuma was seen heading towards Foosha Village.
How Kuma Became A Shichibukai
Kuma being a Shichibukai is something that all One Piece fans know at this point. In fact, when Kuma was first reduced in the story, it was as a member of the Seven Warlords of the Sea. As such, it did not come as a shock to the fans to see Kuma being made a Shichibukai in the flashback. However, the circumstances surrounding this were certainly interesting. For the longest time, fans believe that Kuma would have willingly joined the Shichibukai as a part of some sort of mission that Dragon gave him or to gain intel on the World Government. However, it turns out that Kuma actually ended up joining this order because he was forced. In order to cure Bonney, Kuma would have to join the Seven Warlords of the Sea and, at the same time, have his memories erased as well.
This would ensure that Kuma does not betray them at a later point in the story and that is certainly something that ended up shocking the fans. All this came through Saturn, who fans know is an actively involved character in the Final Saga One Piece, especially in the Egghead Island arc. In order to save Bonney, Kuma wasted no time accepting this offer and immediately joined this order, securing a cure for his daughter as well.
Kuma’s Visit To Foosha Village
One Piece chapter 1100 also showcased Kuma visiting Foosha village, which was the biggest shock in the chapter itself. Immediately after Bonney was cured of the Sapphire Scale Disease, she was sent back to the Sorbet Kingdom and, Kuma himself continued on Egghead Island. During this time, he was also used by the World Government to carry out many jobs all across the oceans as a member of the Seven Warlords of the Sea.
As Kuma was inducted into the Seven Warlords of the Sea, fans got to see the reaction of all the other Warlords to this news. What’s even crazier was the fact that it was mentioned Kuma was a very loyal member of the Shichibukai. Usually, none of the Shichibukai cared about the orders of the World Government. Yet, Kuma was to be the lap dog of the Government. As fans saw the reaction of the world to this news, it was also revealed that Kuma himself was in the East Blue for some reason. A closer look told fans that Kuma was around Foosha village when the World Government called him and gave him a specific mission. As to why Kuma was there, the chapter did not provide any explanation, however, there could certainly be a few reasons for that.
Why Kuma Visited Foosha Village
Given that there have been absolutely no hints pertaining to Kuma and his connection to Foosha village, it is difficult to predict as to why he went to this island in the first place. However, it is always fun for fans to theorize in regards to these subjects and there are certainly some things that can be used to figure out why he was there in the first place. For one, Kuma could simply have been looking for islands to take Bonney to and, to that end, he could’ve visited the East Blue and was simply sailing past Foosha Village. Dawn Island could have caught his eye and that is where he would have wanted to go with Bonney. While this idea is certainly interesting, it is far too specific for Kuma to visit Foosha village, where Luffy is.
When one thinks about it, Dragon did not mention Luffy being his son to anyone. In fact, even Ivankov did not know Dragon had a son. However, when Kuma is introduced in Thriller Bark, he’s already aware of the fact that Luffy is Dragon’s own son. This means Kuma somehow found out about this long ago, before even Ivankov. Perhaps, Kuma has had some information pertaining to Luffy from the get-go. This information could certainly not have come from the Government, given that they had no idea that Luffy even existed at this point. It can only come through two ways. Either Garp somehow made Kuma aware of this information or, he himself went to explore the East Blue, and came across Luffy. But, had Luffy met Kuma, he would certainly have remembered him, given his unique appearance. The only explanation that one can come to here is that Kuma found out about Luffy through someone else and did not actually get the chance to meet him.
Another interesting idea as to why Kuma was in the East Blue could be to search for Nika. Fans know that Kuma strongly believes in Nika coming back once again at some point in the future. Kuma could easily know more about Nika than anyone and, just like his father, he believes that Nika will one day arrive. As a part of the government, Kuma could have found confidential information pertaining to the Gomu Gomu no Mi, or the Nika fruit. The fact is that many people knew that Shanks was the one who ended up stealing the Devil Fruit and it is also common knowledge that Shanks camped in Foosha village for quite a long time. Kuma could have found out this information and, to find the person who ate the Devil Fruit, headed to Foosha Village, where Shanks was long ago.
It is also interesting to note that Kuma received a mission from the Government when he was in the East Blue. If this mission is to be carried around Foosha village, then Kuma would likely find out about Luffy being Dragon’s son and, possibly even the fact that Luffy has the powers of the Gomu Gomu no Mi, which Kuma could know belongs to Nika. The next chapter of One Piece could be massive in this regard and would certainly shock the entire fanbase if Kuma were to know about Luffy being Nika before anyone else. Things are certainly heating up in One Piece and, as the flashback draws to a close, fans can only sit back and enjoy what appears to be the climax of this incredible cluster of chapters.
One Piece is available to read via Viz Media. The series can be read by the fans officially and for free on the Shonen Jump and the Manga Plus app. The release date for the next chapter of One Piece, One Piece 1101, is set to be December 10, 2023.
