Rihanna Just Broke the Record for Cutest Space Buns of All Time

Rihanna, please proceed to the podium and accept your trophy for the Cutest Space Buns of All Time. Space buns are always cute, but there’s something about Rihanna’s latest hairstyle that really amps up the adorable factor.

The musician and Fenty Beauty founder recently stepped out in a truly “aww”-worthy pair of space buns. Her new honey-blonde hair was parted in the center, split into two sections and gathered into buns on either side of her head, with a portion of hair from each section wrapped around the base of the bun to cover up any elastic and add extra detail to the style. Two tendrils were pulled out on either side to frame her face and show off those warm blonde highlights. She styled the buns with an equally ’90s-style outfit of a white tank, zip hoodie, jeans and hoop earrings.

Space buns aren’t just cute — they’re a practical way to keep your hair up and out of your face on a busy day, like when you’re going from meetings to errands and back again or running after a baby and a toddler, a la Rihanna herself.

The buns aren’t the only standout element of Rihanna’s look, either; the Fenty Beauty team called it “glowing and glossy,” and they’re exactly right. The superstar used products from both Fenty Skin and Fenty Beauty for her day out, including the soft peachy champagne Killawatt Freestyle Highlighter in Mean Money/Hu$tla Baby on her cheekbones and the tip of her nose and the limited-edition Gloss Bomb in Pink Dragonfly, a pretty sheer pink.

Space buns were a megatrend in the ‘90s thanks to stars like Mel B. of the Spice Girls, but they’ve had a resurgence in recent years, likely due to our obsession with all things ‘90s and Y2K. Tia Mowry wore a Zenon-esque spiky set in August, and Ciara looked like an anime character come to life with her silver buns. Even J. Lo has given the style a spin, channeling both Baby and Scary Spice with her blonde set. They’re practical, they’re adorable and now they’ve gotten the coveted Rihanna seal of approval — what more could you ask for?
