Taylor Swift and Rihanna Keep Wearing This Royal-Approved Jewelry—and It May Be More Affordable Than You Think

My job is to spot trends and keep an eye on them. Some are much easier to notice than others, like tennis jewelry (strands of diamonds or other gemstones), which celebrities like Taylor SwiftRihanna, and more have worn repeatedly over the last few months. Beyond celebrity sightings, interest in diamond tennis jewelry boomed in 2023 across the web, showing obvious staying power for 2024. While tennis necklaces and bracelets are not new, there is an emerging twist for the present-day look that leans away from conventional diamonds of yesteryear toward ethically sourced stones.

According to Google’s 2023 holiday report, searches for “lab-grown diamond tennis necklaces” doubled over the last 12 months, with lab-grown tennis bracelets even more frequently searched. As an e-commerce expert, this doesn’t surprise me. Diamonds are, obviously, expensive and mining practices misalign with many of our moral compasses, even if we’ve only admitted it silently to ourselves. Sustainable, ethical options are not only kinder to mankind and the environment, but they’re also way more affordable, meaning you can get clearer, brighter, and bigger stones without spending a fortune. Natural diamond prices scale up dramatically as you climb the clarity, color, and carat scales, but well-known diamond retailer Brilliant Earth says, “there is visually no difference between natural diamonds and lab-grown diamonds to the naked eye.”

Being aware of the bang-for-the-buck factor of conflict-free diamonds is especially relevant when looking to emulate celebrity-worn tennis necklaces and bracelets. Taylor Swift’s Cartier diamond strands may not be attainable for the vast majority of us, but a lab-grown tennis bracelet like the one she wore to a recent Kansas City Chiefs game to cheer on boyfriend Travis Kelce might be.

Similar to how Swift wore that tennis bracelet, Rihanna has been keeping the style more casual than red carpet, wearing a crystal choker twice recently while out to dinner in NYC, once for A$AP Rocky’s birthday and a few days later to Nobu.

Meghan Markle was also seen just this past Monday, Dec. 4, pairing a laid-back outfit with a diamond bracelet, which was gifted to her by King Charles. In addition to the more everyday ways celebrities are styling their tennis jewelry, the pieces shine bright for formal events, like when Anne Hathaway sported a spiral stack of diamond tennis bracelets to last month’s CFDA Fashion Awards.

While the Duchess of Sus𝑠e𝑥 wore literal royal jewels and Hathaway opted for Bulgari, you can now capture the aesthetic for yourself at a more moderate price point than those less attainable options. Swift has opted for cultivated diamond tennis options more than once, too, with the bracelet mentioned above as well as a pair of ethical diamond tennis earrings, which she also wore to a Chiefs game.

Pretty much every fashion expert is calling tennis necklaces the “it” jewelry of the moment, and from the number of glamorous women stepping out adorned in the sparkly strings, it’s hard not to agree. From Rihanna out downtown to Meghan, Duchess of Sus𝑠e𝑥 donning a gift from her king father-in-law, women from many walks of (famous) life are wearing tennis jewelry. Shop the look and more timeless diamond styles below to make someone’s (or your own) holiday truly special and get in early on what’s looking to be the biggest jewelry trend of 2024.
