Liverpool’s Offensive Barrage Frustrated by Man United’s Defensive ‘Wall’: 34 Shots, No Success

On that day, Liverpool’s stars could not stop Man United’s bus, setting off 34 finishes.

Liverpool had 34 chances to score, but they could not when they tied 0-0 at home with Manchester United. Liverpool knew they would not be at the top of the Premier League table after round 17.

Man United were willing to defend with a very small team. In this game, coach Erik ten Hag had to put together a team made up of different players.

Liverpool put a lot of pressure on Andre Onana’s goal in the first 15 minutes. The goals scored by Mohamed Salah or Ibrahima Konate gave Liverpool fans a lot of hope. But Manchester United’s defense played very well in this game.

Luke Shaw paid attention to the left hallway and caused Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold a lot of trouble. When Harry Maguire was not available, it was tough, but center defenders Jonny Evans and Raphael Varane did a great job of working together.

In the absence of director Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai was supposed to be the one to connect the dots on the field. However, the Hungary player failed to do his job because he kept passing the ball incorrectly and was not in sync with his teammates.

In the first 45 minutes, even the best player, Mohamed Salah, had a hard time making plays and was “locked to death” by Luke Shaw. He also only had one shot, which Andre Onana saved.

In the first half, Liverpool’s most scary chance came from a fixed position. Alexander-Arnold took a great corner kick in the 28th minute. Virgil van Dijk jumped high to head the ball, but Onana did a great job of blocking it. Liverpool had a lot of control in the first half, but they could not score.

As the second half began, Manchester United tried to boost their team to make things easier for the home team. In reality, the changes made by coach Erik ten Hag worked out well. Man Utd played with confidence and finally fired back hard.

Alejandro Garnacho makes a play for the ball.

Following a pass from Kobbie Mainoo in the 55th minute, Alenjandro Garnacho was up against Alisson Becker. However, Alexander-Arnold was able to step in and stop the Manchester United star from scoring. Soon after, Manchester United launched a strong response. The ball was passed to Rasmus Hoijlund by Scott McTomminay, but the Danish star missed a great chance to score when he was very close.

On defense, Manchester United’s defenders still keep an amazingly high level of attention. Many of Liverpool’s attacks were stopped by them quietly. Andre Onana beat the Anfield team every single time, even though Salah and Darwin Nunez had bad games.

During extra time, Diogo Dalot was kicked off for making a noise at the umpire. But the time that was left was not enough for Liverpool to take advantage of their lead.
