Christopher Nkunku left really impressed by £45m Chelsea player in EFL Cup victory over Newcastle

Christopher Nkunku has now taken to social media to share just how impressed he was with one of his Chelsea teammates in their win last night.

He took to Instagram to praise Cole Palmer, who made sure he let Newcastle fans know exactly how the game ended up when it was all said and done.

It looked as if the Blues were heading out of the EFL Cup last night, therefore surrendering their best chance of silverware for this season.

Mauricio Pochettino rolled the dice of bringing on Nkunku, and his presence alone certainly lifted Stamford Bridge a fair bit as they chased an equaliser.

They found this in added time, with Mykhailo Mudryk pouncing on an error at the back post to calmly convert.

The Blues were perfect from the spot, with Palmer, Conor Gallagher, Nkunku and Mudryk all finding the net.

This allowed Djordje Petrovic to be the hero, saving the decisive penalty brilliantly.

The celebrations showed an element of togetherness in a camp that has clearly been under pressure this season.

This atmosphere continued onto social media after the game, where Palmer had already posted his post-match Instagram.

A number of Chelsea players took to the comments to praise the 21-year-old, with Nkunku leading the way.

It was actually one of the quieter games the England international has had since his £45m move from Manchester City, however he was still able to set the tone during the penalty shootout.

Pochettino will surely be purring at the chance he now has to start both players together in Chelsea’s next game, with them playing once more before Christmas.

They will be travelling to Wolves on Christmas Eve, looking to make it three wins on the spin in all competitions and ease some of the early-season pressure they’ve put on themselves.
