The NFL star admitted he was ‘lucky’ the incident didn’t have a worse outcome.
Travis Kelce is looking back on a scary accident from his teenage years.
On the latest episode of he and brother Jason Kelce‘s sports podcast, New Heights—which was released on Wednesday, Jan. 3—the Kansas City Chiefs tight end remembered a dangerous vehicle crash he was involved in that resulted in him having his driver’s license suspended at age 17.
As the NFL star siblings discussed their teen years and what they were doing 17 years ago, Jason, now 36, expressed how “nuts” it is that he was a “freshman in college,” while Travis, now 34, responded, “I had just gotten my drivers’ license suspended by the state of Ohio.”
The admission caused the duo to burst into laughter, as the Catching Kelce alum explained he had totaled his “hand-me-down Dodge Caravan” from, none other than, his older bro—it was a purple van with a silver back door that he called the “Purple Dragon.”
Then, “a couple months after that, flying around with a couple guys from the football team,” he was “swerving in and out of traffic” and “hit three parked cars.”
Travis acknowledged his faults during his youth, and that he “put everyone’s life in danger,” also urging kids to wear their seatbelts. “Be a better kid than me,” he cautioned.
“But I’m glad I came out okay, and that the guys’ cars that I hit weren’t too damaged, so it wasn’t that crazy on the insurance… but I did get my license taken for this. I put everyone’s life in danger, so deservedly so,” the pro footballer added of the ordeal.
He continued, “Kids, wear your seat belt… don’t do this, this was very dumb and I’m very glad everyone came out okay, it was lucky.”
