Chelsea’s London rivals Tottenham Hotspur recently completed the loan signing of their former striker Timo Werner and he has made an instant impact.
Timo Werner made his debut for Tottenham yesterday in their 2-2 draw with Manchester United at Old Trafford and provided the assist for Rodrigo Bentancur’s equaliser.
However, according to journalist Simon Phillips, the 27-year-old could have actually ended up back at Chelsea. “I understand that intermediaries offered him back to Chelsea,” Phillips claimed on Substack before revealing that the Blues rejected the proposal.
Werner left Stamford Bridge for RB Leipzig back in 2022. However, with his second spell there not going to plan, he decided to join Tottenham on loan last week.
As per Sky Germany, Spurs can sign Werner permanently at the end of his loan for £15m.

Chelsea could definitely do with a new forward coming in. Nicolas Jackson is currently away at the Africa Cup of Nations, while Christopher Nkunku is out again with another injury.
Even so, the Blues probably made the right choice not re-signing Werner.
He failed to light up the Bundesliga this season, scoring just two goals in eight appearances, while the German really struggled during his time at Chelsea.
In 89 games for the club, he only managed to score 23 times (Transfermarkt). With a record like that, you would not have backed Werner to transform Chelsea’s season.
All in all, then, while Mauricio Pochettino needs another forward, the Germany international is not the answer.
As for Werner, he will be hoping his second spell in the Premier League goes much better than his first. He has got off to a good start with that assist against United, but Ange Postecoglou will be expecting goals from a player of his profile and calibre going forward.
