Despite facing financial hardships, a young woman named Thersa Dolby has defied the odds to bag two doctorates at two different universities in the United States within six years.
Theresa is a scholar from Chicago who overcame financial hardships and personal challenges to complete two postgraduate degrees from Walden University and McCormick Theological Seminary.
She achieved an extraordinary academic feat that stands as a testament to her unwavering determination and resilience according to Black News. Theresa obtained a Doctorate in Healthcare Administration (DHA) from Walden University and a Doctor of Ministry (DMin) from the McCormick Theological Seminary.
She mentioned that she faced the challenges of the high cost of tertiary education in the United States and personal adversities were one of the challenges she faced during earning the degree.
Some of the personal hardships she faced include the loss of two close friends and a family member over the six years. Despite these sad losses, she continued her pursuit of academic excellence.
She added that because of her financial struggles, she did summer shifts and often relied on just one daily meal from the subway to afford her education.
Theresa completed two dissertations, one for each course, and defended her work six times before two distinct committees of experts from their respective fields. She said her ability to excel under pressure and be excellent in her studies demonstrated her brilliance.
Theresa expressed her gratitude to her family for their unwavering support and her friends for their regular reassurances. She also thanked everyone who was there for her when she was on the roughest path of her life.
