22-year-old Nigerian Lady graduates from US university as an Engineer, celebrates unique achievement

A 22-year-old brilliant Nigerian lady named Karen (Car-en) Elisha-Wigwe has celebrated bagging a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Miami University College of Engineering and Computing, Ohio, United States.

Karen narrated on her Linkedin that she had left Nigeria to further her education in the United States at the age of 18. Four years after she enrolled at the Miami University College of Engineering and Computing in Ohio United States, she graduated Cum Laude as a Mechanical Engineer with 3.70 out of a possible 4.00-grade point.

“Indeed it has been an enlightening and amazing journey, one of self-discovery, character building, and establishing many intentional and unintentional but all the same exceptional relationships,” she wrote about her experience at the school.

Sharing images of her graduation ceremony, she noted that during her time as a student of the Miami University College, she served and enjoyed support from various communities such as the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) among others.

She thanked her family for their unwavering support throughout her academic sojourn. “To my family for their unwavering support and encouragement. Thankful for the friends I made, the amazing faculty and staff, my NSBE family and the many colleagues I had during my time as a student specialist,” she wrote.

She also noted that she served as a Graduate Assistant for the College of Engineering and Computing during her study period.

Speaking about what next after her graduation, Karen said she has gotten an internship position with one of the leading Marine industries – Brunswick Corporation in Illinois, United States of America.

“This summer, I will be working as a Mechanical Engineering Intern at Brunswick Corporation at the i.Jet Lab facility in Champaign, Illinois,” she stated.

She also explained that she will be starting her Masters’s degree at Miami University, where she obtained her Bachelor’s Degree, shortly after her internship. “Next fall, I will continue with my Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Miami University,” she said.
