El Salvador’s president took the opportunity to greet the Argentinian legend
The president of El Salvador, Nayib Bukele, had a surprise meeting with Lionel Messi and the Inter Miami team during his visit to the Central American country.
Bukele showed up at the hotel where the players were staying, which caused an unexpected delay in the protocol of the match between the MLS club and the host team for 15 minutes.
Bukele, known for his active presence on social media, did not miss the opportunity to take a picture with Argentina captain Lionel Messi and other members of the MLS team.
The images shared by Bukele on his social networks show the moment he met the footballers, generating mixed comments and reactions among football fans. However, the most notable repercussion was the delay in the start of the match due to this unexpected visit moments before the match.
President Bukele, known for his direct and confrontational style, once again places himself in the media spotlight with his active participation in the sporting arena, although the match was not what the fans expected.
Messi and Inter Miami’s visit to El Salvador
The presence of Inter Miami caused a big party in El Salvador, as they arrived with all their international stars led by Lionel Messi. However, the celebration throughout the country did not match the spectacle on the pitch at the Estadio Cuscatlan in front of some 30,000 fans, where the match ended goalless. Messi, Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba, and Luis Suarez started for Tata Martino‘s side.
During half time, the fans saw Jorge ‘Magico’ Gonzalez, the leading exponent of Salvadoran football, take to the field to greet the international stars present on the pitch. He was greeted with applause by the fans who packed the stadium to witness Messi’s first visit to their country.
