Jason Momoa and Amber Heard have co-starred in the DC universe’s Aquaman blockbuster and have a sequel on the way – but what is their relationship like as Heard’s defamation case with ex-husband Johnny Depp rages on?
Amber Heard may have lost between £36 and £40 million in earnings from the negativity surrounding her defamation case with ex-husband Johnny Depp, the court has heard.
The news came as former Hollywood film producer Kathryn Arnold testified as Heard’s witness that Amber almost lost her place in the Aquaman blockbuster franchise over the case.
Kathryn, who now works as a consultant and industry expert, said that Heard’s part in the film was saved by co-star Jason Momoa and director James Wan.
She claimed the two men “committed to her” and were “adamant she was in the film” despite a petition calling for her to be axed reaching 4.3 million signatures.

The two first worked together on the first Aquaman film, which was released in 2018.
Heard plays the role of Mera, a warrior queen who uses water to do her bidding.
The two clearly have a fun and jokey relationship, which Heard shone some light on while appearing on TV in 2018.
Speaking on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Heard said: “Jason is allergic to being ignored. He can’t sit still, so no matter what he will push, prod, nudge, shove you – anything to get your attention.
“Especially if you enjoy a quieter activity like reading. On set I like to read and that just drives him nuts so he quickly adopted this method to um, you know, give himself relief.
“He just adopted this method of ripping out the last pages of my book. Which is annoying. You get to the last like 10 pages and it’d just be gone.”

Despite clearly having had good times while working together, some fans have speculated that Momoa actually supported Depp in the trial and wanted him to win, after they spotted the Game of Thrones star had followed Depp on Instagram.
He is thought to have pushed the follow button in April 2022 but actually follows both Heard and Depp on the platform.
At the time of writing, Momoa has not publicly addressed the case or said that he supports one side or the other.

Lack of chemistry allegations

The court has heard as part of the Amber Heard vs Johnny Depp defamation case that Heard and Jason Momoa had a “lack of chemistry”, leading to Heard being given a smaller part in Aquaman 2.
The claims were made by Heard’s talent agent Jessica Kovacevic as she testified against the 36-year-old actress.
Heard was set to make two million dollars from the sequel, due for release in 2023, but was told that Warner Bros’ reason for reducing her part came down to “the lack of chemistry between her and Jason”.
