Kris Jenner has long insisted that she was kept in the dark about ex-husband Caitlyn Jenner‘s transgender identity.
However, in her cover story for the September issue of Vogue, daughter Kendall Jenner revealed that her mother had known about Caitlyn from the beginning.
‘My mom knew,’ the 20-year-old model shared, adding: ‘She knew since their third date.’

Choosing sides: Caitlyn and Kris Jenner have long disagreed as to how early-on the former had discussed her transition, and daughter Kendall seemed to have clarified the issue in her cover story for the September issue of Vogue
Not seeing eye to eye: Kris insists that Caitlyn only vaguely discussed the transition, never referring to it as a ‘gender issue’
In an April episode of Caitlyn’s E! reality series I Am Cait, Kris and the former athlete could be seen once again disagreeing on how in the know the momager was.
The two chatted about the transition while sitting at a table of Caitlyn’s friends, one of whom – Jennifer Boylan – asked if she had told Kris about it ‘early on.’
Kris responded ‘No,’ to Caitlyn’s dismay, before adding: ‘She keeps saying she told me, but she didn’t.’
She insisted the two had merely shared a throwaway conversation in which Caitlyn (then Bruce) had asked if Kris wanted to have more kids, replying emphatically when she said that she did not.
In the dark: On an April episode of Caitlyn’s reality series I Am Cait, Kris recalled an old conversation in which the star had simply mentioned ‘messing around with this or that’ in the the Eighties, not specifically mentioning hormones
‘Neither do I, that’s great – and I couldn’t have any more kids if I wanted to,” Kris had recalled being told.
She continued that she was taken aback by the comment, pressing for more information to which Caitlyn supplied a vague answer.
‘Oh, jeez, you know, back in the ’80s, I messed around with this or that and it kind of screwed up my sperm count and you know, but whatever!” Kris said of Caitlyn’s explanation.
‘It could have been steroids for all I knew, ’cause he was an athlete. He never said estrogen, he just said: ‘I took some s**t in the ’80s.’ I mean, whatever word. There was no: ‘I am transgender.’ It was: ‘I took some stuff in the ’80s, and my sperm isn’t good,’ Kris added.
Wait a minute! However, Caitlyn insisted that she had used the word hormones, also saying that she had ‘a condition that I’d been dealing with forever’
However, Caitlyn defended herself, insisting: ‘I said I had a condition that I’d been dealing with forever, I said that I was on hormones, and that’s the reason it might be tough to get pregnant.’
However, Kris stayed firm in her position, noting that a friend suggested they ‘have a bottle of wine and go have great sex,’ after which the two welcomed Kendall and Kylie. ‘But none of that was: ‘I want to be a woman,” Kris said.
And back in Caitlyn’s July 2015 Vanity Fair cover story, Kris had also insisted that she was in the dark about everything.
She shared that when she met him, had had said that ‘he had done hormones back in the early 80s.’
Agree to disagree: Caitlyn insisted that she had been taking hormones in the late Eighties up until the year she met Kris
However, Kris noted that ‘this was a conversation that took place in the early 90s. So, what he was telling me happened a decade earlier, and he never really explained it.’
She insisted it was never a ‘gender issue,’ conceding that ‘somebody mentioned that [he] at one point in his life liked to dress up.’
In the same article, however, Caitlyn insisted that she had been taking hormones in the late Eighties up until the year she met Kris.
Looking back: In Caitlyn’s July 2015 Vanity Fair cover story she conceded that ‘a mistake I made was maybe not having her understand’ the situation
The star did share that perhaps ‘a mistake I made was maybe not having her understand.’
Caitlyn also said that she used to cross-dress in front of Kris, though later the Kardashian matriarch set up rules that she could only do it while traveling on her own – not at home.
Kris, however, denied setting down rules, and said that her ex never cross-dressed in front of her, and the only evidence that she found of that was ‘a few times I would see a suitcase or things lying around the house.’
Meanwhile, Kendall spoke of accepting her dad through the transition, while calling it ‘a gnarly experience.’
On better terms: Despite disagreements over the transition, Caitlyn and Kris still come together for their children, showing off big smiles in November as they supported Kendall at the 2015 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show
‘We’re not judgmental. But obviously it’s strange having your dad, who was so male, completely reverse,’ she said.
She also discussed ‘catching’ Caitlyn throughout her life, noting that at one point she and sister Kylie, 19, thought that their father was cheating on Kris because they found make-up and nail polish.
‘One time we found those squishy boob things. We found wigs,’ she said, before recalling running into Caitlyn in the family home.
Close: And Kendall says that the family is ‘not judgmental,’ completely accepting Caitlyn for who she is, though the model did call the change a ‘gnarly experience’
She explained: ‘She would wake up really early just so she could dress up and move around the house and get that little kick for the morning, and then go back to being Bruce – take us to school, totally normal.’
One morning Kendall accidentally interrupted that alone time as she went downstairs at 4am for a bottle of water.
‘As I was coming back out, my dad was coming down the stairs in, like, a wig and makeup and shoes – the full nine. And she didn’t see me,’ she said.
‘I literally froze. Please don’t turn left. Because she could either turn left or turn right. Thank God she turned right and – to this day! – has no idea that happened. That was the first time I had ever seen her.’
A struggle: The cover girl admitted that the change had initially been ‘really hard,’ as she had learned her ‘tomboy’ habits from the Olympic decathlon champion
And she admitted that she has since found Caitlyn’s transition ‘really hard’ to deal with, especially since she learned her ‘tomboy’ habits from the Olympic decathlon champion.
‘We had ATVs and go-carts, and I grew up riding them all the time, which is why I’m a good driver. It’s super ironic to think about now, but it’s something I can thank my dad for: how much of a tomboy I was,’ she said.
Kendall continued: ‘That’s why I think the whole thing – her transition – was really hard for me, because I was like, ‘But you taught me everything tomboy!”
‘A new person to love’ She also revealed that she sometimes gets ’emotional’ looking at old pictures of her dad, thinking of having to make new memories with a ‘new person’
However, the catwalk icon has admitted she is slowly beginning to come to terms with her parent’s change, which she doesn’t view as ‘weird’ anymore.
She explained: ‘It has gotten easier. I knew it was going to have its rough phase, but it’s all super normal now. It’s not weird at all.’
Although Kendall has admitted she has become more accepting of Caitlyn and her transition to become a female, she feels ‘sad’ when she reflects on the precious moments she has shared with her parent prior to the transition, and feels ’emotional’ having to make new memories with the ‘new person.’
‘Blessing in disguise’ Though she sometimes gets ‘a little sad’ thinking about her dad when she was a guy, Kendall shared: ‘You have to get past it – you’ve got a new person to love’
‘Sometimes I look at a picture of my dad when she was a guy, and it makes me a little sad – I get emotional,’ she said.
‘You have to get past it – you’ve got a new person to love. It’s kind of a blessing in disguise – if that’s not the wrong way to say it.’
