What seemed to be one of Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs’ best weeks after winning the Super Bowl turned into a horrific day after the Chiefs’ Super Bowl parade shooting. The city is in a state of shock in the incident’s wake that claimed a life and left over 20 people injured. The Children’s Mercy hospital counted about a dozen injured children, all expected to recover.
Two of those children were sisters Madison “Madi” Rose Reyes, 10, and Melia Reese Reyes, who were related to the now-deceased local radio DJ Lisa Lopez-Galvan. In the wake of this devastating incident, Mahomes and his wife tried their best to spread smiles in the grief-stricken Kansas City. His actions on and off the field have made him the hero of Kansas City and cemented his way into the “dynasty.”
Patrick Mahomes pays a surprise visit to the young fans
After a nail-biting Super Bowl 25-22 win over the San Francisco 49ers, the Kansas City Chiefs headed to their hometown only to be welcomed by a colossal tragedy that would shake the world. Despite the mourning, the Mahomes family and the Kansas City Chiefs didn’t budge and came out to support the ones in dire need. While the Chiefs provided the much-needed monetary support, the Chiefs’ QB gave a personal touch to his efforts.
The Mahomes couple visited the Children’s Mercy hospital to see Madison and Melia Reyes. The photos from the hospital show both children smiling upon seeing Mahomes and his wife visit them in tough times. An article from the People Magazine shared more insights on what happened during the visit.
“In a time where they are traumatized, saddened, and worried, having a surprise appearance from Patrick and Brittany Mahomes brought the first smile to their faces since tragedy struck. Even though they will be wearing casts for several months they are excited to show loved ones that Patrick signed their cast,” the Reyes family stated.
They later added, “We want to thank the Mahomes Family for being so kind, caring, and loving to our little ones and ask that the community please keep them in their prayers as they navigate life moving forward.”
But that’s not all; apart from all the monetary help, the Mahomes couple is doing its best to personally visit the victims and help cheer them up in their worst times. They are also helping set a response system in place in case something like this happens again.
Patrick Mahomes and his wife step up for Kansas City
The tragedy was as shocking for Mahomes’ family as it was for the whole of Kansas City. The quarterback and the 15 and the Mahomies Foundation donated $50k to the special emergency fund “KC Strong,” started by the Kansas City Chiefs and the United Way of Greater Kansas City. He recently made a post on X that said:
“Just like #ChiefsKingdom has always been there for me and my family, we want to be there for them.❤️ The @Chiefs have launched #KCStrong, an emergency response fund supporting victims and their families, violence prevention and mental health services, and first responders. “
“Please join me, Brittany and @15andMahomies to support and if you are able, donate here: http://chfs.me/KCStrong,” said his statement on X.
Hopefully, the victims of the tragedy recover quickly, and the Chiefs don’t ever need to utilize those emergency funds. The Mahomes family stepped up in a time of need and showed utmost compassion and support to those without whom the Chiefs would be a lost cause.
