Is that a genuine smile on Keanu Reeves’ face at last?
The actor has been frequently seen in a solitary and downcast state recently, sparking concerns about his well-being. However, yesterday brought a different sight, with Keanu photographed sharing laughter and smiles during a coffee break with a friend in Toronto. The Matrix star is currently in Canada to promote his new movie, “Henry’s Crime,” at the Toronto International Film Festival.
Despite his usual casual attire of scruffy jeans and old trainers, it was a refreshing change to witness him enjoying a moment of happiness. Images of a sad and unshaven Keanu have become commonplace, even prompting an internet initiative to uplift the actor’s spirits, leading to the declaration of June 15 as official “Cheer Up Keanu Day.”
Recently, the actor was captured celebrating his 46th birthday on a loading dock in New York City with just a solitary cupcake for company. A few days later, he was pictured looking lonely, smoking a cigarette next to a ‘no loitering’ sign.
Keanu has faced personal tragedy, particularly the loss of his former girlfriend Jennifer Syme in a car crɑsh in 2001, just 16 months after their baby daughter Ava was stillborn.
Despite the concerns, Daniel Murphy, 21, the creator of the Cheer Up Keanu Facebook page, believes that Keanu is doing fine and attributes the public perception to the underappreciation of his work. Murphy points out that although Reeves delivered a remarkable portrayal of Hamlet, many still associate him primarily with his role in the 1989 film “Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure.”
Reeves’ representatives have clarified that he is not depressed and appreciates the concern from fans. They attribute the situation to a misinterpretation of a paparazzi shot. Regardless, it is heartening to witness the actor smiling and seemingly content once again.
