Real Madrid and Mbappe working out Ballon d’Or clause as talks enter final stage – Romano

After years of speculation, Kylian Mbappe could indeed don the Real Madrid jersey next season putting an end to the long-drawn soap opera of his transfer.

In the process, the dream of a certain young French World Cup winner to play for the best club in the world will also come true.

Mbappe, on his part, has already informed PSG that he will not be renewing his contract this summer. Having completed his deal with the Ligue 1 giants, he will walk away as a free agent, and Real Madrid is the obvious destination.

Negotiations in the final stages

Mbappe’s entourage and Real Madrid administrators have been in close contact for several weeks now, ironing out the closing details of his first contract as a Real Madrid player.

According to the latest update from Fabrizio Romano, the negotiations between Mbappe and Los Blancos are now in their final stages.

The two parties are just adding the final touches to the already-agreed deal before the official exchange of signatures can occur.

One of the current topics of discussion, for instance, is around the Ballon d’Or clause that will be triggered if the player wins the elusive award as a Real Madrid player.

The achievement will entitle Mbappe to a massive bonus and the sum on the line for the same is presumably the facet under discussion.

Tit for tat?

By bringing in Mbappe, Real Madrid are taking away PSG’s icon and perhaps the biggest crowd-puller in Ligue 1. There is nothing the Parisiens can do about the same, and they are reportedly now looking to inflict damage on Real Madrid in turn as revenge.

As revealed on Friday, PSG will try to lure the Merengues’ star Vinicius Jr in exchange for Mbappe and will utilise their financial muscle to tempt the player away.

The chances of the Brazilian chasing the monetary excess, however, are very slim.

It remains to be seen if any truth arises from the latest rumour. In any case, Real Madrid will have a fierce squad heading into next season, so much so that an elimination from any competition in the season will be seen as an underachievement.
