Kelly Piquet has found herself on the receiving end of backlash after her father, three-time F1 world champion Nelson Piquet, used a racial slur against Sir Lewis Hamilton.

The former Formula 1 driver called Hamilton the n-word while analysing his collision with Max Verstappen at the 2021 British Grand Prix.

“The little n**** [Hamilton] put the car in and left because there was no way to pass two cars on that corner,” said Piquet.

“He made a joke. Lucky for him, only the other one [Verstappen] got f***ed up,” the Brazilian motorsport legend continued.

Although the remarks were made last year, they only came to light recently, prompting widespread condemnation.

Formula 1, Mercedes and Hamilton on Tuesday publicly condemned Piquet’s use of the racial slur.

“Discriminatory or racist language is unacceptable in any form and has no part in society,” Formula 1 said in a statement.

“Lewis is an incredible ambassador for our sport and deserves respect. His tireless efforts to increase diversity and inclusion are a lesson to many and something we are committed to at F1.”

Hamilton, for his part, took to Twitter on Tuesday to hit out at the three-time world champion and call for change.

“It’s more than language. These archaic mindsets need to change and have no place in our sport,” the Mercedes driver wrote in a tweet.

“I’ve been surrounded by these attitudes and targeted my whole life. There has been plenty of time to learn. Time has come for action.”

Meanwhile, Nelson’s daughter, Kelly, has received backlash from Hamilton fans, with many taking to social media to urge her to condemn her father’s use of the n-word.

Furthermore, in response to being inundated with negative comments on an Instagram post that she shared on Monday, Kelly restricted comments on the post.

The Brazilian model has a child with former F1 driver Daniil Kvyat, and she is currently dating Max Verstappen.

Nelson Piquet is yet to respond to a request for comment by Formula1News.co.uk.

It remains to be seen if Formula 1 will take any punitive measures against the three-time world champion.
