Mainoo, who is 18, was first called up to Lee Carsley’s Under-21 team. He has played for England’s U19 team before.
Southgate seems to have changed his mind, though, because he has added Mainoo to his team as a safety measure.
As a response to the news, Mainoo posted a picture of himself dressed as an England player with the words “It’s an honor to receive my first senior call up 🏼🁥🁚🁥🁿”
The young star from Manchester United can now make his start either against Brazil on Saturday or against Belgium on Tuesday.
Along with Jarrad Branthwaite and Anthony Gordon, he is the third member of this team to be called up for the first time.
Another big step forward for Mainoo, who has been on a rapid rise since joining the United first team in November and has hardly missed a game since then.
Mainoo’s play has caught the attention of many, and now he has the chance to make a case for being in the Euro 2024 team.
There is a big fan named Ian Wright who said last week that Southgate was wrong to leave Mainoo out of the team.
Southgate, who is 53 years old, chose Declan Rice, Jordan Henderson, Conor Gallagher, Jude Bellingham, and James Maddison to play in the middle of the field instead of Kalvin Phillips.
When asked why Mainoo wasn’t in the squad, the Three Lions manager said that he thought Mainoo would be called up soon.
There are some guys, like Kobbie Mainoo, Harvey Elliott, and Rico Lewis, who are doing well, Southgate said. Things are going well for Archie Gray at Leeds.
“Mainoo is doing great for a young player,” I said.
He’s only played in a few games, so you have to be very careful. We’re never slow to put a young player with the leaders.
She said, “We think we should let him grow at his own pace.”
“However, he’s having a great time at Manchester United and seems like a great person.”
