The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live Stars Address Possible Season 2

The stars of The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live speak about the possibility of the spinoff getting another season.

The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live was not necessarily designed from the start to be an ongoing series, but the door is open for the story of Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne (Danai Gurira) to potentially continue.

A six-episode series, The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live was originally envisioned as a trilogy of tie-in feature films. During development, plans were changed to instead develop the story as a limited series. The new spinoff has drawn high viewership and positive reviews, and this may have some Walking Dead fans hoping for another season following Rick and Michonne. Per TVLine, the possibility was discussed by the show’s co-creators and executive producers: Andrew Lincoln, Danai Gurira, and franchise boss Scott M. Gimple.

The Ones Who Live’s Ending Could Make or Break The Walking Dead Franchise

The Ones Who Live has turned The Walking Dead universe on its head. But the finale of the season could change the franchise in a huge way.

“Can’t answer that,” Gurira said when asked about a second season. Gimple then teased, “Let’s just be quiet on this one.” For his part, Lincoln joked, “Well, I die in the last episode,” which had Gimple adding, “Or he’s doing a little psyop, and maybe he actually does.”

The finale hasn’t yet aired, so it remains to be seen if Rick will in fact meet his end in the upcoming episode. However, even if Rick does end up getting killed off, Gimple further teased that a second season of The Ones Who Live is still “possible.” He reaffirmed at the primary focus is on the current season, but the vague tease is a good sign for the fans who believe the show should be renewed.

Rick and Michonne’s Walking Dead Spinoff Won’t Work Without This Character

Rick and Michonne’s storyline in their Walking Dead spinoff would be incomplete without a reunion with this fan-favorite character.

“I would say anything is possible, even if Rick dies in the last episode. Anything is possible,” Gimple said. “We’re focused on this one right now, but this one came together in a really amazing way where there were all sorts of plans, and the world changed, so we altered those plans and wound up with something we really liked.”

The Walking Dead Lives On With Its Spinoffs

It’s worth noting that both of the other newer spinoffs, The Walking Dead: Dead City and The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, were renewed for second seasons. Given that the response to The Ones Who Live has been pretty strong, it would seem that there’s a good chance the limited series could end up getting new episodes in the future. Gurira has even teased that there could one day be an Endgame-style crossover event that reunites all of the spinoff characters back together.

The season (and possibly series) finale of The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live will debut on Sunday, March 31, on AMC and AMC+.
