Many Marvel characters have been presented in previous Deadpool films; however, some of these characters will not be making a reappearance in the next Deadpool & Wolverine film.
Despite being a continuation of the Deadpool film series, several characters are not expected to make a reappearance in Deadpool & Wolverine. Deadpool was saved from an extremely disappointing start to his live-action film career by two beloved iterations of the legendary Marvel character. Deadpool & Wolverine, the Merc with a Mouth’s third film, is scheduled to include the much-awaited character’s first appearance in the MCU film canon. With Deadpool making a cameo appearance in the main MCU storyline, Ryan Reynolds is returning to his beloved role as Wolverine opposite Hugh Jackman.
Numerous characters from the first two films, including Colossus, Negasonic Warhead, Yukio, Blind Al, and Dopinder, have already been confirmed to make a reappearance in the forthcoming Marvel film. While many previously known characters will be reunited in Deadpool & Wolverine, other heroes are apparently not coming back for the character’s upcoming film. With tying Deadpool’s storyline to the MCU, the movie has a difficult task ahead of it—one in which some characters most likely won’t play a significant role. So, for Deadpool 3, these are all the characters that won’t be coming back.
4 Josh Brolin Is Not Returning As Cable
Introduced in: Deadpool 2 (2018)
Josh Brolin is one actor who has firmly denied that he would play Cable again in the upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine sequel, confirming he will not be appearing in the film. Deadpool 2 had a positive reception for Cable’s debut, and Brolin’s portrayal of the significant mutant hero was a fitting one. In the follow-up, Cable will not, however, be joining the MCU concurrently with Deadpool and Wolverine.
There is yet more to learn about Cable’s disappearance in Deadpool 3. Josh Brolin may have been left out in order to put more space between the actor playing two significant parts in the same series given his prior MCU role as Thanos. But since Brolin has a multi-event deal, it’s quite possible that Cable may eventually enter the MCU, maybe even in the context of the franchise’s own X-Men story.
3 Domino Is Not About To Make Her MCU Debut
Introduced in: Deadpool 2 (2018)
Domino is another Deadpool 2 character that isn’t expected to make a comeback in Deadpool & Wolverine. Actress Zazie Beetz said to Collider that she was not scheduled to feature in the movie and that she was not sure how her absence will fit into the plot of Deadpool 3. Given that Domino was introduced as a significant figure in Deadpool’s X-Force in Deadpool 2, her absence—if it isn’t addressed in the film—may be especially noticeable.
There have been rumors that Beetz’s absence was mostly due to a financial issue. Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds are the film’s main stars, so it’s possible that budgetary considerations had an influence on the decision to bring back certain characters, especially if doing so would have increased the danger of packing the movie with superfluous characters. Domino deserves a chance to thrive in the franchise the same way she did in Deadpool 2, even though Zazie Beetz isn’t presently scheduled to make her MCU debut in Deadpool & Wolverine.
2 TJ Miller’s Weasel Is Not Joining The MCU
Introduced in: Deadpool (2016)
TJ Miller was first seen in Deadpool as Wade Wilson’s close buddy Weasel. Miller had a notable supporting role in the first two Deadpool films. It has been confirmed, nonetheless, that Miller will not be making a comeback for Deadpool & Wolverine, and Weasel will not be included in the narrative. Weasel’s absence is perhaps simple to explain given the timeline-traversing plot of the film, but Miller’s refusal to be asked to return was probably due to more than simply story considerations.
Following conflict on the filming of earlier Deadpool films, Miller openly said in 2022 that he would never collaborate with Ryan Reynolds again (The Hollywood Reporter). A number of films dropped Miller as a result of his involvement in several legal troubles and accusations (The Direct), which has led to conjecture that this is probably the reason he won’t be in Deadpool & Wolverine. It has been announced that Weasel will not appear in the planned sequel, for whatever reason.
1 Firefist’s Return Would Undermine His Character Arc
Introduced in: Deadpool 2 (2018)
It is reported that a different figure that made an appearance in Deadpool 2 of Fox’s X-Men film franchise won’t be making a reappearance in Deadpool & Wolverine. In Deadpool 2, Julian Dennison portrayed the youthful Russell Collins (also known as Firefist), who might potentially be the movie’s adversary and one of its most nuanced characters. Dennison’s portrayal of a budding antagonist in the film presented the protagonist with an intriguing moral conundrum as he tried to shield the youngster from Cable. But Firefist won’t appear in Deadpool 3.
Actor Julian Dennison announced he won’t be in the next sequel in an interview with CBR. Russell might have had a fascinating character journey given that his tale did not conclude in Deadpool 2, but this will not happen in Deadpool & Wolverine. Dennison says that Phase 6 of the MCU is not where he will make his screen debut, although it is conceivable in the future.
Other Deadpool 2 Characters Missing From Deadpool & Wolverine’s Trailer
There are other minor characters introduced in Deadpool 2 that will seemingly not be a part of Deadpool & Wolverine, too. Though some X-Force members are set to return, Brad Pitt’s Vanisher, Terry Crews’ Bedlam, and Bill Skarsgård’s Zeitgeist were all notably absent from the trailer. As each of the actors is a major Hollywood star, it’s likely their involvement would be highly publicized, making their potential inclusion in Deadpool 3 seem altogether unlikely.
Deadpool 2 also introduced a number of other prominent Marvel characters who do not seem to be returning. Hope Summers made her live-action debut as a child shown in Cable’s flashback, and Juggernaut appeared played in part by Ryan Reynolds. Furthermore, the comic book antagonist Black Tom Cassidy featured in the previous movie. However, it appears that none of those characters are set to be a part of Deadpool & Wolverine, meaning that they’ll have to wait longer to make their first MCU appearances.
