While filming movies and TV shows, some actors undergo more than audiences realize. Jennifer Lawrence has dealt with multiple on-set injuries during her career, while the folks making What About Bob allegedly had to deal with Bill Murray’s behavior away from the cameras.
For her stellar performance in The Favourite, Emma Stone was forced to wear a costume that caused some serious problems, and it led to an agonizing experience for the actress. In the end, she won rave reviews, but Stone was forced to endure serious pain to make it all happen.
Let’s hear what Emma Stone went through on The Favorite, and how it might have been worth it in the end.

They say that some must suffer for their art, and Emma Stone got a crash course in this for her role in The Favourite.
Stone, who played Abigail in the film, went through some serious physical agony thanks to her costume in the film.
“Women existed like that for such a long time, which gives you a lot of sympathy for that time period and what they were going through. For the first month, I couldn’t breathe,” Stone told Graham Norton, per Business Insider.
“After a month, all my organs shifted. It was gross and if you don’t have to, don’t do it,” she added.
“The bottom half of my stomach, whatever, I’m not a doctor, whatever is in there, went down that way, and I guess just my ribs stayed up,” Stone said.
Weirdly, Stone used something to aid in the discomfort: menthol.
“I would smell menthol and it would make me think I was in a wide-open space and could breathe for a moment in time,” she said.
During that interview, Eddie Redmayne was able to empathize with Stone.
“[The designer] made these corsets, it was at if they were from the 16th Century, whale bone and he tightened me into it. And he had worn corsets all his life and basically his body went into this extraordinary kind of thing. So I have had some sympathy for the actresses,” Redmayne said.
That sounds like it was an agonizing experience for the star, who had to endure an immense amount of physical pain while shooting this film.
In the end, however, she would have the last laugh, as she found herself nominated for one of the most prestigious awards in Hollywood.

Despite losing out on the hardware, Stone had positive things to say about being in the film, one that boasted three leading ladies.
“I had so, so much fun. It was amazing to find one part that is really hilarious, layered and complex, particularly for a female, but there were three. Reading through the script it was insane that these women are so full bodied and fantastic, it was so exciting,” Stone said about being in the picture.
Even though she did not take home the win for The Favourite, Stone already had one, and earlier this year, she earned another.
