Cates Has A Secret Wife: Enter Brenda Barrett

General Hospital spoilers tease that Agent John Cates (Adam Harrington) and Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Bernard) have quite a contentious history.

Sonny blames Cates for abandoning his younger brother, Stone Cates (Michael Sutton) when Stone was dying. Cates did ask Stone to leave Port Charles with him but Sonny still sees it as abandonment. Sonny was there for Stone as he passed away.

In addition, Cates blames Sonny for hurting the love of his life, Karen Wexler (Cari Shayne) by corrupting her with drugs at a very young age.

But Karen wasn’t the only woman who has been involved with both Sonny and Cates. Cates and Brenda Barrett (Vanessa Marcil) were romantically involved as well, although he left her for Karen.

Brenda went on the become involved with Sonny, and some would say that she was the love of Sonny’s life. But Brenda and Sonny went their separate ways and hasn’t been heard of in several years now.

Cates only recently returned to Port Charles, but little is known about his personal life in the past few years.

Years ago, Cates cheated on Karen and they divorced. Karen returned to Port Charles alone but sadly passed away in a car accident. Cates has a son from another women, but his current marital status is unclear. It seems quite likely that at some point, he may have reconnected to Brenda.

Perhaps they are even married. So far, Agent Cates appears to be single and seems to share chemistry with Carly Spencer (Laura Wright). But if he really is married, their relationship may go no further than flirtation, at least for now.

If Brenda is indeed married to Cates, she may actually come to Port Charles is he plans to stay in town much longer. Once Brenda lays eyes on Sonny again, she may not be able to resist those old feelings they had for one another.

Meanwhile, Carly and Cates easily find passion of their own. The whole situation could get quite a bit messy, which is only further complicated by Cates profession as an FBI Agent and Sonny’s position as a powerful mob boss. There’s no telling what will happen if Brenda really does come home!
