Taylor Swift’s song Florida!!! gets bizarre ‘oddities’ credit for Emma Stone on The Tortured Poets Department – as singer reveals track’s inspiration is ‘wanting a new life’ amid heartbreak

Emma Stone has received a unique ‘oddities’ credit on Taylor Swift‘s track, Florida!!!, which also features Florence & The Machine on The Tortured Poets Department album.

The Grammy winner, 34 – who officially dropped her anticipated 11th studio album – additionally co-wrote the song with Florence Welch.

However, in the liner notes, the La La Land actress, 35, and close pal of the Bad Blood songstress was given the credit of ‘oddities’ – although it is unclear what the term means in regards to her contribution.

Stone’s latest Oscar-winning film, Poor Things, was also compared to Taylor’s black and white teaser clip for her single, Fortnight, which is slated to premiere on Friday at 8p.m. (EST).

Her ‘oddities’ credit is the only one on the entire LP. Oli Jacobs notably received a ‘talking’ credit due to lending his voice on the song, I Can Do It With A Broken Heart.

Swift told iHeartRadio, per People, ‘Florida!!! is a song I wrote with Florence and the Machine, and I think I was coming up with this idea of like, what happens when your life doesn’t fit, or your choices you’ve made catch up to you.’

The star explained that at certain points in life, ‘you’re surrounded by these harsh consequences and judgment…’

‘And circumstances did not lead you to where you thought you’d be and you just want to escape from everything you’ve ever known,’ Taylor continued, adding the question of, ‘Is there a place you could go?’

The performer, who is a fan of Dateline, said, ‘People, you know, have these crimes that they commit, where do they immediately skip town and go to? They go to Florida.’

Lyrics in the track bring up the topic of cheating and going through heartbreak, such as: ‘All my girls got their lace and their crimes/And your cheating husband disappeared, well/No one asks any questions here.’

She also calls Florida ‘one hell of a drug’ and sings, ‘Love left me like this/And I don’t want to exist/So take me to Florida.’

While further reflecting on the song, Taylor added, ‘I think when you go through a heartbreak, there’s a part of you that thinks: I want a new name, I want a new life, I don’t want anyone to know where I’ve been or know me at all.’

‘So that was the jumping-off point behind where would you go to reinvent yourself and blend in? Florida!!!’

Swift and Emma have been longtime friends and first crossed paths back in 2008 while attending the Young Hollywood Awards.

The singer also supported the actress by stopping by the premiere of her film, Easy A, in 2010.

Over the years, the two stars have been seen spending time together and also spotted posing with each other at industry events, including the MET Gala.

Last year in March, Emma notably cheered on Taylor as she watched the singer perform during her Eras Tour stop in Glendale, Arizona.

A few months later in June, Stone told Vanity Fair, ‘The concert was pretty amazing,’ while revealing that Swift had ‘hooked’ her up with tickets.

‘I was lucky ’cause we’ve been friends for a really long time. I’ve known her since we were 17 and 18, so she hooked me up, which was very nice ’cause I know those tickets are impossible to get. She’s a wonderful friend.’

And on the singer’s Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) album which was released in July 2023, fans theorized that the track, Emma Falls In Love, was possibly inspired by Stone herself.

Taylor never confirmed who exactly ‘Emma’ is, but did explain that the song was written about one of her close friends, per Entertainment Weekly.

And on The Tortured Poets Department, Stone not only received an ‘oddities’ credit for one of the tracks, but also sparked speculation that the Fortnight music video teaser that Taylor dropped on Thursday was inspired by Poor Things.

Swifties flocked to social media to share their thoughts and theories after the visual was released, with some comparing the Victorian dress and the video’s institutional vibes to Stone’s Oscar-winning film

The short snippet began with the words, ‘I love you,’ being typed repeatedly on a piece of paper. The video then jumped to cuts of both Taylor and Post Malone, and at one point, the pair shared an embrace on an open road.

Swift then could be seen wearing a gothic, Victorian dress while she was in a room and appeared to be crying as she sat a desk writing.

Towards the end, the star sported a strapless gown as she tossed a chair in a window.

Fans then saw a close-up of the singer’s face as she sent a dramatic gaze directly at the camera, ending the teaser.

‘At this hearing, I stand before my fellow members of The Tortured Poets Department with a summary of my findings,’ the Blank Space songstress wrote in the caption while counting down to the album’s release.
