The Swoosh took over Paris this weekend for a special launch event with Jadon Sancho of England and Borussia Dortmund to show off their new type of Mercurial shoes.
.
Nike held another big event in Paris to celebrate the release of the “New Lights” and “Under The Radar” colorways of the Mercurial Superfly 7 and Vapor 13. These boots will be used for the first time in Sunday’s Women’s World Cup Final further south in Lyon. The blue “New Lights” drop will be worn by quick players for the USA and Holland to start a new age of Nike speed. But before that, the Swoosh did something Mercurial with a hit set in Paris.
.
There was fast-paced football on a blue field, foreign players from both the men’s and women’s games, and the Mercurial being delivered by drone against a beautiful background in Paris’s Nanterre neighborhood. It was the perfect way to end one season and start the next. Jadon Sancho, Caroline Graham of Norway, and Andressa Alves of Brazil played on the field before Nike designers talked about how the new Mercurial project would work.
Stay tuned for in-depth interviews with the Nike design team about how they made the next Mercurial and the challenges they faced. There will also be an interview with Jadon Sancho about his bigger role at Nike in the next generation of shoes, his amazing 2018–19 season, and what’s next for the Dortmund and England player. Oh, and the first Mercurial moves aren’t over yet. Tomorrow (July 8), a first limited edition drop is coming out.
