F1 is now lot hipper and more exciting thanks in part to Lewis Hamilton. That’s because he’s among the world’s waviest dressers.
Even while leather moto jackets and matching pants imprinted with hundreds of tiny Marlboro insignia were formerly synonymous with Formula One, the racetrack is starting to resemble a menswear display more and more these days. Thank you once more, Lewis Hamilton.
Rick Owens, the fashion industry’s everlasting dark king, gifted Hamilton with a brown puffy jacket to wear ahead of the Formula One Grand Prix at the Shanghai International Circuit in China. Made from a blend of cashmere and virgin wool, it’s cozy but stylish.
He then dove into a pair of Mega Bumper Geobasket sneakers—yes, another creation by Rick Owens—and some incredibly flowy, baggy pants. The IWC Big Pilot’s Watch, which was created in partnership with Mercedes and not Rick Owens, was the final piece that the Billion Dollar Man added to the ensemble.
One of Hamilton’s favorite designers, Rick Owens, has been creating what might be the best pants to ever enter the pit for quite some time. The luxe-grunge company was a major player in his outfit during the Formula One championship last year, dressing him in anything from tie-dyed jumpsuits to apocalyptic fits that put Pedro Pascal’s The Last of Us flannels to shame.
Hamilton even had a disco-ready boiler suit manufactured especially for him by the namesake label. They collaborate extensively. Additionally, they collaborate nicely.
In a 2023 interview, Hamilton tells GQ, “Everyone in general has started to be more and more open-minded and now no one comments on what I wear.” It seems to be saying, ‘That’s what Lewis does.’” But, my goodness, there was criticism at first. It was impossible to be who you truly were in [Formula One]. It’s amazing to observe how people are starting to blossom right now.
Yes, Lewis Hamilton is preparing for Ferrari in the upcoming season. There will be changes. However, the pants? They are welcome to stay.
