Scarlett Johansson finds faking orgasm in 'Her' sex scene with Joaquin Phoenix 'gross,' 'awkward,' and 'bizarre'

Nearly a decade after the film Her hit theaters, actress Scarlett Johansson is opening up about her odd ‘𝑠e𝑥 scene’ with co-star Joaquin Phoenix.

The 37-year-old actress voices the computer program Samantha in the 2013 indie film, which writer Theodore (Joaquin Phoenix) ultimately falls in love with.

Johansson appeared on Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast, where she revealed how ‘awkward’ and ‘bizarre’ her 𝑠e𝑥 scene with Phoenix really was.

‘We tried to get through one take, and he was, like, losing it. He was so upset about it. He left the studio. He needed a break,’ she began.

She added the scene was so awkward because, ‘You don’t want to hear your voice ever. You definitely don’t want to hear what you sound like having an orgasm.’

‘You definitely don’t want to hear what you sound like having a fake orgasm — ew. It’s so gross. It was so bizarre,’ she added.

The film followed a lonely writer played by Phoenix, who installs a new computer operating system designed to cater to his every need, leading to him falling in love with the program.

Johansson was brought on to replace another actress, Samantha Morton, who director Spike Jonze had originally cast.

She added that doing the actual recording work, ‘was so exhaustive,’ adding, ‘We recorded that movie in its entirety 40 or 50 times.’

The actress said director Jonze, ‘built me this weird little box, this little vocal box that I would be trapped in, like a little broom closet.’

She added sometimes Jonze would, ‘sit in there with me’ adding it was ‘so bizarre,’ and it was, ‘one of the most challenging jobs that I’ve done.’

‘It was really really f***ing hard because Spike is very demanding and it was something that was so tender, every single moment had to be so impactful,’ Johansson said.

She also opened up about being ‘hyper𝑠e𝑥ualized’ when she started her acting career as a child.

‘I kind of became objectified and pigeonholed in this way where I felt like I wasn’t getting offers for work for things that I wanted to do. I remember thinking to myself, “I think people think I’m 40 years old,”‘ she said.

‘Because I think everybody thought I was older and that I’d been [acting] for a long time, I got kind of pigeonholed into this weird hyper𝑠e𝑥ualized thing,’ she said.
