Parts five and six of the Scream franchise, written by James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick, explored new territories and locations. The good news is both writers are returning for Scream 7. As for the setting? While part six moved from Woodsboro to New York City, it’s unclear if the action will stay there or return to familiar ground.
Neve Campbell has announced her return as Sidney Prescott, sharing the news on Instagram in March 2024. Her casting follows the firing of Melissa Barrera, star of Scream V and Scream VI, due to her posts about the Israel-Gaza conflict.
The Scream franchise began in 1996 with Wes Craven’s original movie, which followed the residents of the fictional town of Woodsboro as they dealt with a series of serial killers, each wearing a creepy ghost mask and often targeting Campbell’s character, Sidney Prescott. After Craven’s death in 2015, two new installments were released: Scream in 2022 and Scream VI in 2023, both directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett. In March 2024, Kevin Williamson, the original screenwriter of Scream, Scream 2, and Scream 4, was announced as the new director.
