They will hunt you to the edge of the Earth.” Sony has finally revealed the first trailer for Neill Blomkamp’s follow-up to District 9, titled Elysium, starring Matt Damon plus Jodie Foster, William Fichtner, Alice Braga and Sharlto Copley as Kruger.
We’ve been teasing the first few bits and glimpses of this since Comic-Con last year, but now the rest of the world finally gets a first look at the new world Blomkamp has created. As a huge sci-fi nerd, it’s exciting that we’re getting another visceral, innovative, stunning Blomkamp experience. This may be a solid trailer, but the finished footage plays even better.
Elysium, directed by South African filmmaker Neill Blomkamp (of District 9), focuses on Secretary Rhodes (Foster), a hardened government official, who will stop at nothing to enforce anti-immigration laws and preserve the luxurious lifestyle of the citizens of Elysium. However, that doesn’t stop the people of Earth from trying to get in, by any means they can.
When unlucky Max (Damon) is backed into a corner, he agrees to take on a daunting mission that if successful will not only save his life, but could bring equality to these polarized worlds. Sony/Columbia has Elysium set to hit theaters on August 9th this summer.
